Does anybody know of a good board repairer in the Sydney area?

Fin chop style damage on the rail, although it receved the blow in my garage.[}:)]

Looking for a good repairer which can match colours etc.

Drop it into Windsurf and Snow. Not sure who they use but a couple of years ago I had nose damage from hitting a floating tree fixed. Repair was second to none. You had to look really close to see any difference.

That was my initial plan, but they where a little indifferent about organising anything ATM.

Indifferent may be a little harsh but definitely reluctant to take boards away from people until our repairers get more sorted. Boards at this stage are taking a min of 2-3 weeks to get back to us which as you'd agree is a bit uncool.
We've been told that in the new year this should get a weekly turn around service again. Sorry this wasn't explained better to you.

If you are temporarily happy with a quick fix seal up and go I could do that for you in store tomorrow no charge until a proper repair can be sorted.
Sam.

Try Solarez as a temporary fix. It's a pre mixed export that cures when exposed to uv light (aka the sun). Its water tight in about an hour and fully cures in about 24 hrs. It's clear and when applied with a layer of cling wrang pretty smooth and needs very little sanding afterwards.

No dramas at all as long as the temp repair was good enough to keep the board nice and dry.

I actually should add that temp repairs like ding stick and solarez are great to get you back on the water but not in all situations.

If the damage is in a high stress area of your board like the rails or nose and pretty serious then a proper repair should be done. These quick fixes whilst good at sealing the board will not repair it's structure and as a result the next good hit or jump could make the original damage far worse or sometimes take it beyond repair.

Sam.

A little harsh - I didn't think so - I did say ATM - Festive season and all.

I'm not Happy to do a temp fix, don't want to chance it sucking water. I have no plan (or money) to change my boards for a looong time.

I'll see you mid Jan. I supose till then no light wind sailing.

Hi Sam,
I sent you an email this week, not sure your got it.
Is there a way I can get in touch directly with one of your repairmen if they are located in South Sydney?
Anne told me the other day in Wanda that one of them is around Cronulla which would be much more convenient for me than going North of Sydney :)
Thanks heaps.
Sebastien

There's a guy on Greenwich Road in Greenwich as well that does pretty good repairs. I've lost his number but hopefully someone else has it. had a few repairs done there and he seemed to turn them around pretty quickly - about a week from memory.

I'm going to try solarez as a temp fix. Looks like a light wind week comming up before I go back to work - would love to get back on the water.

Some help before I start.

Do I use the 'epoxy' or 'Polyster' - its for a JP Supersport Carbon

Also any help as to where can I buy it (inner west) Sydeny.

Thanks in advance.

Don't use polyester resin in any board made by Cobra. Use epoxy resin.

From what I've read polyester resin will eat up the core of a styrene core board. I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong as this is very important information. Using the wrong resin will destroy your board.

Most hardware stores would sell epoxy repair kits.

I agree with Robbo KJN at Taren Pt has done excellent repairs with a good finish. They mostly do surf boards and surf skis but rate them for windsurf repairs. 3 boards took them a week to turn around for me

Ran into the Rainman on a motorbike ride a few weeks ago on the old Pacific Hwy. at Pie in the Sky (NSW). He was riding his new black Triumph 665 triple. He still is a very good motorbike rider and used to be a B grade road racer years ago. Had a Bultaco.

Yes Ray has retired; he said something about epoxy etc. being "bad" for your long term health. Good call I say.

Pity, he was good at repairs. John Hall taught him well.
