Anyone else going to Birubi tomorrow? Should be plenty of wind and small surf. How about some of you Canton guys having a go in the surf? If Birubi doesn't look good, Bagnalls (eastern side of Corlette) is good for flat water and isn't far. It has clean wind for a westerly, clear water with no weed, and great parking/rigging.
I was thinking birubi may be worth a look with the small swell but dose it work in NW or dose it need SW. were at bagnells do you sail from i never been sailing up that way. any chance of some directions or a map, street address for mr navman. forcast said it shoould be on by 11am, going to pack the gear soon.
Birubi is best in NW or WNW, at least that's what the stations read (the best two to check are Nobbys and Williamtown), which doesn't make sense if you look at a map because in a NW where we sail at Birubi would be 45 offshore (that part of the beach runs east/west i.e. faces south) but in reality a "NW" will be only slightly offshore. A SW wind is too onshore and messy. A straight W is okay, still cross-shoreish but not as smooth.
Bagnalls: that name tends not to show on maps. It's on the eastern edge of the suburb of Corlette, at the start of the bush. So you don't get confused, there's another carpark 600m west, a few hundred metres east of the marina. As far as I know (I've hardly sailed either spot for years) less people sail there. It'd be okay, more exposed to the wind for rigging and launching (the main Bagnalls spot is sometimes shadowy for about the first 50m from shore).
thanks for the info, the main spot is next the bush yeh?, just park there somwere & go. never sailed there so keen to try it out. looks like a sandy bottem.
Yep, at the start of the bush, next to the last houses. There is some weed growing on the bottom near the shore, but otherwise sandy.
just had a good 2hour sesh down at Currarong (or whatever its called) as i was in the area.. 5.2m should of used the 4.5m. waves were small with a chest high (if that) set every 20 mins.. just awesome to sail at a massive beach and not see a soul anywhere.. gotta love the NSW south coast !!
there was no currant at all, my dad said there is a bad current when ever he puts the boat in, maybe bagnells is far enough away from heads to not have a raging current. its shallow for 100m out, weed on the bottom only none on the surface & yeh the further out you go the bigger the chop, some 2ft ones there the other day, sandy bottom white sand beach & only place westerly is not gusty, i be sailing there again.
