Hi,

Some of you may have read about the Burrill v Tabourie post question...and I decided on Burrill...well it was a no go for setup at camp and windsurf...the lake only had channels and not navigable via w/surfer...tho I must confess to using the Starboard Start as a SUP...even fished off it...was great fun.

Had a few windsurfs at Burrill West (less than 5 min drive) and Kings Point (15 mins drive) but definitely not the set up at camp and play experience which I wanted for the youngster. She was not keen to enter a foreign environment but had that same envionment existed at campsite she would have had time to be less afraid (paranoid about stingrays but has little hesitation paddling out the back in 2-3' surf )

Anyway....So was wondering if actual spots exist? i.e is there a mythical spot where you can camp and windsurf (lakeside not in surf at this point) from your camping spot?

Got another week and wanted to see if I could experience it...I figured instead of 1 x 2 hour exhausting session (for a newb) 3 or 4 x 1 hour would be much better if I didnt have to rerig each time.

I guess the other solution is to drive to said perfect location and rig for the day and picnic/rest during the non windsurfing times.

Just go to Sanctuary Point, No camping on the water but it's only a short drive and you can leave your gear there rigged all day without a problem. It's only a short walk to the shops for lunch and there is a playground for the kiddies. Take a bat & ball, Frisbee and the like and you'll have a great day. There is also heaps of sailors there that can give you some tips, It's by far the best learners spot on the east coast.

At Gerroa at the moment the river is closed which is holdling some water down by the riverside caravan park, it's shallow enough in most parts to be only waist deep or less. The nor'easters wouldn't get in there but anything south to west would be ok.

I stayed at a house up at wallis/smiths lake a few years back, I think it was coomba park or something like that. I wasn't into windsurfing then but we could just walk across the street and had direct acces to the lake from a park, It was near a boat club.

Places like you want would be more easily found on a fresh water lake like Burrinjuck dam, Glenbawn dam, Keepit or any of the others through the riverina or hunter area. Most of these have camping grounds lake side and as a bonus no sharks.....But some of the cod are big enough to swallow you whole.

......Just go to SP, But i would advise to saty in Husky and drive the 10 mins to SP...Much better accomidation to be found at Husky.....And it's close to the pub

A few places I can think of where you can camp in a caravan park and get to the water very easily.

South West Rocks at the gaol.
Jimmy's Beach on the north side of Port Stephens
Canton Beach at one of the caravan parks there
The Sand Islands of Lake Macquarie staying at Swansea Caravan Park
Somewhere on Bombah Broadwater along Mungo's Bush Road. This is not at a caravan park but a National Park camp site. So its more primitive camping.

We're staying at Sandbar over the Australia Day weekend. Prob 5 or 6 days. So hoping its as good as it sounds. The other place is the Tiona Sundowner up that way as well. Lakeside location with the surf right behind you and national park backing it up.

I really like Lake Tabourie caravan park. The caravan park is a little like a refugee camp over Christmas, but the regular NE wind is good fun. Often a small wave to play on (south beach) and can be sailed in both directions. The lake is a little light and gusty, but can be accessed from the campsite and is perpetually warm in the summer.

i would go with jh7023, we have guy's traveling from illawarra, ulladulla, and Canberra, to sail at sanctuary pt, the problem with the ulladulla area is the n/e is lifting off shore too climb over pigeon house mt , where as the wind funnels through Jervis bay and for some reason picks up speed as it gets to the basin, just keep your eye on seabreeze this fri sat & sunday , my guess is ulladulla will be 5knts less than point perp

My 2 cents worth, and dont tell to many people.

Myall Lakes is hands down the best spot for camping with kids. It's where i learnt to windsurf as a child and its where i will be teaching my kids.

Sure the wind is a bit fickle but for kids, shallow clean water, safe swimming and great camping.

It is however very basic, ie: no showers or flushing toilets. 2.5 hrs from sydney and its a national paks so first in best dressed. Id reccomend camping at white tree bay.

And as a bonus, if your a speed sailor and you get a cranking NE, jimmys beach in hawkes nest is 20 minutes away.

Might see u there a chrissy

As already mentioned, Tiona at Wallis Lake (south of Forster) could be great - surf on one side and acres of clear shallow water on the other, leading into many square km of deeper clear water.

We did the Windsurfer One Design nationals out of the caravan parks at Batehaven, Batemans Bay. It's shallow and protected inshore, with great open water offshore. Cabins and camping are along the beachfront. We do a dinghy regatta there each Anzac Day and love the place.

Coila Lake apparently has great sailing and I think there's waterside camping. I once did a great weekend at Wallaga Lake, which has a waterfront camping/caravan park.
