New to windsurfing in the area - quick question on rules. As I understand it...

1) windsurfing off rose bay and neilsen park/shark beach are OK subject to avoiding traffic lanes in the harbour
2) windsurfing off Bondi is forbidden at all times?
3) Maroubra is OK outside the flags?

Is this correct? Thanks!

Rose bay is fine (Kitesurfing banned due to the sea planes. Watch out for them!) and a good option in NW, ok in W if you don't want to drive further.

Neilsen Park is ok too though I don't know if anyone sails there much now. Although parts of the NSW Martime website say Sydney Harbour is a "no-go zone for windsurfing and kitesurfing", there are specifics in their guide that shows the exclusion zones: www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/docs/publications/sailboarding.pdf

People do sail Bondi, outside of patrol hours e.g. in a big southerly first or last thing. But recently there was an incident with a kiter and the life guards, so I would think things are a little sensitive and wouldn't bother. It's not going to be that great mostly anyway.

For what it's worth, the lifeguards in Coogee told me there's no windsurfing or kiting allowed in any Randwick Council beach. Not sure why, but given the crappy state of the water off the eastern suburbs coast, it's no great loss really

In a SW wind and decent swell maroubra is SICK... big loss.
That BS about windsurfing being banned, sailed there yesterday. was a bit average though. I phoned the council and they told me its the lifegaurds descretion.
also sailed of coogee beach out to wedding cake a while back.
