Hi, heading up to Yamba for a few days and Saturday is looking OK for a SWerly.
Has anyone sailed on Wooloweyah Lagoon, 5 ks south of Yamba. Is it deep enough for a 46cm fin.
Hey Thermo. I have sailed Yamba quite a lot, but never Wooloweyah. The guy that runs the surf shop in the main street called "Fandango" (name of the shop not the fella
) used to be a windsurfer, and he lives out there and paddles his SUP on the lake each day. Being an ex-sailor he might be able to give you a good run down. Would love to hear how it goes if you get out.
I've sailed Wooloweyah a couple of times but never really tested it in all conditions. Very choppy and very poor viz so have to be careful of submerged rocks and sand bars. No trawlers this time of year though so a little less murky than over Summer. Also be careful of crab trap lines - can get very thick at times.
Unfortunately not really any good flatwater SW spots on the lower Clarence I think. Whiting obviously awesome in a NE and Iluka Bay very good in a S to SE. Good luck! ![]()
