Am, probably going to jinx it, but what the hey! Originally I was planning to hit the water mid afternoon, but forecast looks like it could be stronger in the morning.... Sooooo, am thinking of going for a dawn sail at La Perouse. Any takers? Or is it likely to be equally as windy in the afternoon?

Graphs seem to be ramping up now. Few green arrows starting to appear.
Have fun if you can get out.

Hey Laff,

Is Foreshore Rd (formerly Meerkat Dr - until they took all the bushes away) at all operational in westerly or still closed off for port works??

Nope, Meerkat Dr is a pretty major construction site at the moment. They have built a new boat ramp and big carpark which is operational. But there is a lot of consrtuction activity in the water which would make us windsurfers pretty unwelcome....

I've got my van loaded up in the car park and am keeping an ever vigilant eye on the windsock outside my office window, so I am ready to up and go to LaPers at a minutes notice

i sailed a westerly at foreskin drive about six months ago. took off at that boat ramp but it was really hard to sail away up wind with the big break wall next to it. the water was filthy from all the disturbed sediment also.

All the guys working on the water were actually pretty stoke to watch a windsurfer tearing down the runway. have not seen how busy it is now though.

Does anyone know if the beach in the corner will have public access again soon?

Got out for a couple of hours at lunch time. Wind was a bit holey, but not too bad at all. Was fully powered up on a 5.7 and water wasn't too choppy either. It was so nice to be out on the water again with Mr Sun smiling down Am a very happy little camper (am struggling to keep a big silly grin off my face back at my office desk)

You probably can't see it too well from this photo because I just snapped it with my mobile phone but the way the booms are configured at the moment, there is a gap about 15 to 20 meters wide at the north western end of Foreshore Rd which you could sail through. Once you're through that, there is plenty of room to sail down the runway. The danger is that if the wind drops or if something breaks, you may not be able to get back through the gap in the booms to the beach.

I think officially this area is still closed off to the public. The Sydney Ports website says the project is scheduled to be completed after mid 2011 so realistically, it may not be until then that we can sail there

I had a look at foreshore last weekend and surprised to see that the speed strip will still be usable once they remove all the netting. They've even built a nice observation and photo platform on the beach.
