Hi guys, Here is the calendar for the upcoming season. It looks like it is going to be a bumper season with 8 rounds in the series plus the Australian/Oceanics and the Worlds! We arranged the calendar to have 4 regattas before the worlds so that we have plenty of race practice up our sleeves.
Note that the Australian/Oceanics at Hawks Nest in January '17 is only provisional at this stage - we haven't got all the OK's yet.
Note also that the series includes a Division 2 board fleet for the first time
. The concept here is to sail the same courses and same starts as the raceboards, but score as a separate division.
We are now working on the NOR & SI's for the series and will post the NOR asap. The sail limits for the D2 class haven't been set yet, but I guess they will follow what the International rules are - please let us know what you D2'ers want!
Looking forward to this season - 20 days of racing in NSW, AU & Worlds ( 60+ races) plus Club, Twilights and after work NE's. Hope my body and gear makes it through or at least til Worlds
.
We should have a big turnout, given that we had 20 racing in the DAC winter series and 10 turning up for informal practice races.
The series entry is now available via the website - www.raceboards.net.au - find the entry form via the menus at the top of the home page;
Regattas->2016/17 Regattas->2016/17 NSW Raceboard & D2 Series->Series Entry
Entry goes via Windsurfing NSW's Paypal account and is set at $125. This entry does not include round 5 at Sanctuary Point because of the NSW Raceboard Championship at this event. This weekend will need to be paid for separately.
The series documents are also available from the same website at the same menu. There are 3 documents - Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions and the Season Calendar. All are pdf documents.
Note that the calendar has changed for a few regattas in 2017 due to a date change in an associated formula event.
Also note that the included Division 2 class is set at category 'C' - which allows for sails up to 9.5m.
The first round of the series is a one dayer on Lake Illawarra, September 17th.
I hope to see you all there
Looks like a great series, looking foward to it and well done to all the organisers behind the scenes. One quick question, does our memebership with AWA include Third Party liability cover as mentioned in the NOR ?
I forgot to mention that if you don't want to enter for the whole series then you can just enter each regatta on the day with cash.
It is a bit cheaper if you do all the events to series enter rather than pay for each one on the day (and less hassle for me!!)
Seabreeze forecast for Pt Perpendicular looks like light NE but Met-eye forecast for Lake Illawarra shows 15-20 kts at 1pm and then maybe 20-25 at 4pm.
It was a great day at Illawarra. About 16 competitors for race one of the NSW Raceboard series. We had 2 races before lunch in about 8 to 12 knt. ( if that ) of sort off north to north easterly winds . My starts are improving but still need s lot of work. I could not get the height on the upwind length and think my sail had too much down haul therefore too flat for the conditions. We had lunch and after lunch 3 more races in what looked a stronger breeze but once on the course it was the same and dropping as the day went on. I came in after race 4 as my position as first from the back was secured with 4 bullets to the back. Considering that last year I did not make it to the start line I think I am improving and if progress keeps going at this rate I should be on the podium in about 2050. I don't know results but what I saw from the back the usual crew such as Lea ,James, Justin Lord , Ryhs and Doug from Canberra would be contenders for the top places. Sailing went till after 4Pm and was followed by Refreshments in the club. The other highlight of the day was the unveiling of Australia's latest Raceboard sail brand Lord Racing! It looked good on the beach and better on the water and I think Justin got two seconds and would be happy with this and could be busy making more, so put your order in now! Hope to see you in Hawks Nest, ciao Jorn![]()
Hi Guys, the previous post (results) had a few small mistakes in the handling of ties - a Sailwave setup problem. For Round results a tie is treated as an equal placing (e.g. eq 3rd). For the series results (all rounds minus one drop) ties are separated by Appendix A8.1 in the WCR.
Hi Can10,
Unfortunately as the majority of the guys that would ride D2 also compete in the NSW Raceboard series and because all of them are intending sailing Raceboards in the Worlds this year there were no D2 competitors at last weekends regatta.
Yep...I'm fully aware and understand the issue.
Good training all!
BTW, from your point of view...how many D2 sailors does it represent potentially among your RCB community training for World Brisbane? (those who could but...)
There are at least three of the NSW Raceboard guys with D2's, all of who will be racing Raceboards not D2's at this year's world's.
Looking forward to this weekend. I've been watching the forecast all week. Could be planing weather.
The weekend at Hawks Nest was one of contrasts with wind gusts regularly over 30 knots from the West on Saturday causing racing to be cancelled and light, drifting winds on Sunday morning causing postponement until a good NE seabreeze developed in the afternoon. A good fleet saw some tight racing across all four races. Well done to Doug, Richie & Justin.
A big thanks to Geoff & his race crew for getting the most out of the conditions.
HAWKS NEST REGATTA RESULTS:
SERIES RESULTS TO DATE:
Next round of the series is at Dobroyd Aquatic Club on 15th October - see you there
Round 3 is at Dobroyd Aquatic Club this Saturday (15/10/16) - address is Rodd Park, Henley Marine Dr, Rodd Point NSW 2046.
Times are as follows :
Briefing - 1:30pm
First possible race - 2:20pm
Number of races - 3 or 4
Parking and rigging is on the hill at the eastern end, people do use that end of the park over looking the water for picnics and weddings etc so keep the area closest to the water clear, (it will be obvious on the day).
Thanks to Greg MacInnes (Commodore & Raceboarder!) for the info.
Racing at DAC is usually very tactical with plenty of wind shifts and bends, so it is great practice for the Worlds.
See you there
P.S. - there is a small error in the Hawks Nest results - in Race 4 Conor was a DNS, so Arnie finished 11th. I will fix this up in the series results after the DAC round.Save
And AUS-1977 Stormriders not DAC.
Is it not possible to start earlier so we might achieve 5 races [assuming some idiot doesn't explode tripping over the finishing bouy]?
Hi Steve, sorry about getting your club wrong - will correct when I post the results after round 3.
We will be racing at DAC as part of the normal Saturday club racing (dinghies etc, but we will have our own start), so we need to tie in with the normal times.
Should be easy to get onto the water early for some extra practice though.
A great turnout of raceboarders at Dobroyd Aquatic Club on Saturday - 26 in all!
We started off with a light northerly(?) although it was quite flukey in places. By the 4th race a quite solid NE was blowing, making for some fast racing.
A big thanks to DAC for hosting this round and a special thanks to Glennys & her race crew for organising the on-water stuff.
Congrats to James, Lea & Doug.
ROUND 3 RESULTS
SERIES RESULTS, AFTER 3 ROUNDS
Next round is at Georges River Sailing Club on Botany Bay. It is a 1 day event with the formula crew on 29th October.
See you all there
Hi Guys, yep I stuffed the results up - the order of the finishers on the sheet from the finish boat was not the "real" finishing order! The finishing order required a sort of the finishing times! Oh well - learning all the time! Sorry guys.
I've also removed any sailors who did not fill in the required paperwork and pay the regatta fees. I've assumed these sailors did not want to be part of the series round.
Let me know if you spot something else amiss.
CORRECTED ROUND 3 RESULTS
CORRECTED SERIES RESULTS TO DATE
Bushfire,
Thank you for all your organization and computation.
I'd be very keen to see the finish times - to know how far I'm off the pace - how much I need to improve [apart from A LOT] etc etc.
Even a couple of photo's of the race results sheet sent by phone if possible.
but I'm sure others might be just as keen.
Round 4 of the NSW Raceboard Series - this Saturday (29th Oct) at Ramsgate Beach, Botany Bay.
NOTE the location change - although this regatta is hosted by the Georges River Sailing Club we are sailing direct on Botany Bay, due to the good NE wind forecast, (that is not from GRSC).
There is also a change of times : Registration from 10am - 11am. Briefing at 11am. First possible race at 12 midday.
We are racing with the formula crew so should be lots of fun.
Remember we need at least 2 races to validate the regatta and a maximum of 5 races (which will gives us one drop).
Also remember that if you are not series entered you need to fill in a form and pay an entry fee ($10) at registration. We are trying out an EFTPOS payment system on Saturday so bring your plastic!
This is our last regatta before the Worlds in Brisbane so make sure you get there early and also get you mates along to make it the biggest fleet for the season
A great day's sailing on Botany Bay!
A big thanks to Adam and Brett from the formula crew for organising all of the elements and, of course to Andrew & Craig on the water for getting 5 races away.
Well done to James for dominating and to Doug for chasing hard.
These results are provisional - it was hard to decode the result sheet in a few places. I have assumed "Clear 1" as a sail number is Paul Hewett. There was also a "White Sail" - in the first 3 races - not sure who this is and therefore not included in the results. If you spot any anomalies please PM me back.
I will post the series results in a few days.
