Never sailed on the ripple strip at crab land, what size fin and angle do i need to make or re foil for sunday.
boards will be isonics 101,86,76,49,f2 f small
hello mr sic puppy,
i would recomend for the 101 around 34,86/76 around 26,and a 22 for the smaller boards all at 45deg.
you will find all the boys are using something different, how ever 45 deg is pretty good at shedding elmo's snot![]()

As Snides says, 45 is the best bet, but you can get away with less if you stay further out away from the weed, trouble is, this usually more choppy.
The middle of the run you don't want to go in with anything longer than a 23cm weedy, 45 degree preferable, 40 degree minimum, looks like it's gonna be a very low tide though but rising later in arvo, so probably need to stay out of run, and run outside the outer PVC Pipes.
Small Fins required, unless you stay out in the deep, they're call 20 to 30 at this stage so could be good??? probably just killed it now.![]()
Thanks guys for the info,![]()
won't say anything on conditions don't wont to hex a spot before ever sailing it.[}:)][}:)
Further to the discussion about suitable fins for Sunday, I had a couple of questions as to what I might get away with using my current fin quiver (no weedies).
What sort of weed are we dealing with at Novara? Is it the stringy sort that gets annoying and slows you down after a while (so you stop and clean it off). Or is it clumps that cause sudden, catastrophic deceleration (is there risk of personal injury not using a weed fin)? Is it bottom growing such that it is less of a problem in the deeper water, or does it float around?
Would I get away with a swept back freeride type fin, or even a wave fin? If so, should I leave my slalom boards at home and bring the freeride/wave boards (they seem to go just as fast/slow most of the time
. Or if I really need a weedy it would be logical to bring the good gear and tee up a weedy before Sunday.
On another note, how shallow is the sailing area near the shore? Coala Bear is just learning how to water start and finds it easier if she can touch the bottom. Also, is there an area to sail in that she wont get in the way of the fast traffic?
Greatly appreciate your thoughts.

The weed is definitely of the stopping catastrophically kind. You can touch bottom near the shore if you dont mind a few reminders from the crabs that you are on their turf. I would get a weedie. The JP freeride weedies are highly regarded.
Bit long though at 29 cm, I'm after a good fin for my 5.6 so I can burn down Hardies run when it's blowing... Got a PB in my sights!
Would that extra 4cm make a difference?
My JP Freeride 31 feels a bit big for my smaller sails, feels pretty good on the 6.8 though.
Your JP free rides have quite a bit of area though compared to the MFC one you linked to but not in the tip.
IMHO, if its your Iso you want a fin for i wouldnt go too small. They need decent lift to perform.
I will show you the techy's i have reboxed. they seem to work a treat.
34cm PB of 36knts
30cm 37knts
i have got three small weedies you can try, they all were made form kinetic slalom fins just reboxed at 45deg
23cm
25cm
27cm
catch ya on Sundy
