a few of us are planning a trip to sandy point from the 27th jan till the 2nd feb, can anyone tell me how the tides will be what to expect wind wise
Keef, go to: http://www.bom.gov.au/oceanography/tides/MAPS/melbourne.shtml
-select Port Phillip Heads Tides (not Streams), then the date you want, then add about 1.45hrs to the times and you have Sandy Point tide times.
At the start of that period you will have high tide around midday and by the end of it you will have low tide around midday.
This time of the year, SW fronts happen about once a week and strong Easterlies happen for a couple of days in between. But every now and then the pattern stalls so it is purely pot luck.
You have one huge thing on your side though. Since I am back at work that week it is sure to be really windy!![]()
For SW winds tide is not that important (as long as it is not too high), but for Easterlies (which often build during the day so stronger in the afternoon) you need the bottom 3 or 4 hours of the tide to expose the Easterly speed bank.
Mid tide is pure washing machine.
High tide is very choppy but a bit more regular
