My old foretrex 201 has died or so I thought a while back. I upgraded to a GT-31 but would love to keep the 201 as a spare and also to strap to newbies arms who are interested in the GPS thing..
The 201 shows "battery charging in progress" when in the recharge cradle but will not turn on. The buttons beep and make all the right noises. Have looked on the web for some info. Have tried the Garmin "reset" option with no luck. Any other ideas???
My guess is that the battery is stuffed, as happens with batteries.
I don't know if you can replace them in a 201, as I imagine they are sealed quite well.
Send it to Garmin Service in Sydney and they will send you a new or repaired one for $89. This applies to both the Foretrex and the Geko.![]()
Anthony and Red,
From the Garmin website:http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/au/home/support/warranty/
Please complete these two easy steps:
STEP 1: Contact Garmin Technical Support to receive an RMA number.
Call or e-mail Garmin Technical Support Specialists to describe the problem you are experiencing and request a Return Material Authorization (RMA) tracking number. You will need to provide the unit's serial number (if applicable), your return shipping address, and a daytime telephone number.
Phone: 1 800 235 822
E-mail: Tech Support
STEP 2: Ship the unit, along with the RMA number, to Garmin.
Once you have received the RMA number, securely package the unit and ship it (insured) to the following address:
Garmin Australasia
Unit 19
167 Prospect Highway
RMA Number: (insert your RMA number here - see above)
Seven Hills, NSW 2147
I have sent a Foretrex 201 back and had it replaced, about a 7 day turnaround.
cheers
