I rig free ride Loft 02's 6.6 and 7.4, and KA's 6.6 7 and 7.5 on the 4.60, and have riggged the NP Hellcat 5.7 on the 430 PowerX and 7. All went well
Sadly the product has taken a new direction, as I always found them a reasonably good mast.
the only sail that has been rigged on the mast was an arotech 6/5 free ride , it's good to hear you have rigged 3 other sail brands with the powerex masts ,, this mast has a very fine tip so im hoping it will suit a pryde rsr 7.2, I have a friend who has a Maui race sail and they don't like a mast that suits a N/P , has anyone used these masts on different race sails ![]()
The mast in the photo looks like a pre '08 Powerex. These masts are, if I recall correctly, hard top masts and have nearly the same bend curve as the Naish SDM masts and the pre '13 Gaastra SDM masts. So either a Gaastra or a Naish sail will match the mast perfectly.
You might also try an older Severne. I know from some Severne teamriders that in the past they used Powerex masts because they where easier to get overhere and matched the Severne sails pretty good. Although Severne does need a bit more stiff top. The difference might be that the sail has a better highend but a lesser lowend.
Stay away from NP or any other flextop brand. It might work in no-cam sails but that's just about it. The range in which the sail can be used will be very small. A hard top mast in a flex top sail will give a complete different profile with too much belly in the lower section, large creases just above the boom a lot of loose leech in the mid section and nearly no loose leech in the top section. Also Loft, North, Simmer and KA won't work properly. These sails all rig on constant curve masts which tend to flex top.
In general you can say if you want to use a camber sail and specifically a race sail get a mast which matches the bend curve of the recommended mast as closely as possible. If you have a mast but not a sail. Find a sail that matches the mast. Race sails are the highend, Formula 1 some say, of windsurfing. The wrong mast in a race sail is the same as sticking the wrong tires under your F1 car. Yes it does work but the loss in performance is clear!
ll the 400 and 430 45%-55% ZWave masts I measured were around 12% CC. They worked really well on KA 2006 to 2012 KA Koncepts and KA wave sails.
I use a 520 ZSpeed on my 9m KA Koncept and and it works very well but I have not measured it. I would have assumed ZSpeed masts are around 12% as well. I seem to remember reading that in their specifications.
thanks for the feedback , initially I was disappointed when the mast wasn't suited for my pryde sails , after reading the uni fiber mast compatibility I found the constant curve is suited to 2/3rds of the sails on the market, so it's off to buy & sell![]()

Keef,
I have the same mast and it went really well with Naish redlines. I have Severne Reflex 5 rigged and set up very nicely with no issues. Not suitable to NP sails at all. Probably suit North warps as well.
It is very small dia in top section and very thin walled. They are superlight and seem to be pretty good. Mine is quite old, but a work of quality production art! 100% carbon.
They are a keeper.
thanks for the info Fez your spot on with the specks, it's not my mast I was going to buy it because a friend is getting rid of her gear
i'm happy with the prydes so it will have to go
