are newer model boards any faster than the older style[longer + narrower].

i have old windtec 8ft 10inch, around 75litres, not tested on gps yet.

now i have my gps working going to test against a few newer model boards.

tested my 110 litre f2 with 5.8m and 27.5knots is max i can get.

on same day 15/18 conditions on 5.0m with kinetic 52 i did 29.4

small is faster for peak speeds.

gps is not so boring after all.

If you got 29.4 out of a 5.0 in 15-18 knots (and weigh less 60 kgs) then you should move to the Pit and give Daffy, Kato, Spotty etc a big shake up.
And after reading some of your posts lately, maybe its time for your medication???

peter is fast on the river. But he doesnt like going downwind , unless of course someone downwind of him is struggling hard to get back upwind on small gear in marginal conditions. Race time. Peter loves a fair race

My old boards are still very fast relative to new boards I own. I have a JP 270 freeride 90L 55 wide 1998 year and it is still one of the fastest boards in rough water reaching.

I have reached a top speed of 37 knots on it off the wind, which considering it was rough water is very fast.

But I must say that long nose feels strange to me now days, and the skills required to get a skinny board plaining in light wind are hard work to keep, Why you ask?The new breed of boards plane so much easier, you become a bit rig lazy.

I still like the old boards they offer fantastic fun on higher wind blasting days and jump on chop heaps better than short wider boards of the same volume of today's designs, Why? because you can use the hard longer rail to point into chop at the critical moment at better speed and approach angle to get the wooshka off the chop, and board lenght in the air is like a sail it will give you extra pop when you get the wind under it.

I don't see guys getting big air much on flat water chop any more and I think that's because new boards are focused more on gibe support and easy plaining. That is why I keep some of the old boards.
