I know ,I don't have real race board and sail...
I've got Fanatic eagle 113 2007, and allwave 85 2007
and sails: neilpryde excess 6,9 / combat 5,0 and 5,6
also I've got fins: freemove 32, 33, jp free 38 and MFC SL Slalom 36.

I am new in measuring speed, just to be faster of myself, and wonder
have you speed guys have any idea will I may be faster than 24 knots
(that is my PB for now) with equipment I use so far.

Thanx

btw, I plan to buy NP 7,2 Hellcat, Saber or maybe RS Slalom this year

YES!!!!!!

All you need is smooth water and wind. I'm not familiar with your equipment, but in good conditions it should be possible to do around 30kt with wave gear.
Not that I've really tried to see how fast I can go on my wave gear, but one day I will just out of interest.

I haven't had a close look at a modern combat, but they used to be very flat sails, not what you want for speed. To go down wind at 130-140 deg you need a lot of draft in the sail otherwise, you loose sail pressure.

Hi Warrior,

I've done about 28 knots on my wave gear, you should be able to crack 30 on your kit.

The secret is:
1) Go deep! Turn well downwind when you have a big gust. This will increase your speed like crazy. You are never going to go fast if you just go straight across the wind.
2) Rig big. You want to feel like you're overpowered when you're going across the wind, this is the only way you'll be well powered going downwind.

Getting expensive slalom or speed gear isn't required to beat 24 knots.

If you have 20 knots wind, and flattish water, then I would run:
Excess 6.9
MFC SL Slalom 36
Allwave 85 if well powered, or the bigger board if you're struggling.

This might feel a bit unstable at first but should get you cranking when you figure it out

yeah, thanx guys so far

so, I mostly ride Eagle 113 and this is freemove, freecarve board, not wave, of course mostly with MFC SL Slalom 36 and with 6,9 Excess, mostly in zero on boom (more powerfull setting), only this year I planning to change that sail for 7,2 like RS Slalom, or Hellcat (some of freerace, nocam or 2cam).
Most of the year we ride on our lake, and that is real flat water even on 35 knots, and from time to time I tried to go up to 120 degrees, but, I am new in windsurfing, so I still learn how to, and stuff like that ( Don't be afraid of my age, I am goin' crazy in the middle years, hell yeah). Also, this year I will try to ride with Pierre, and he will show me some secrets

p.s. I also got here in Croatia one legendary fin: Turquay Australian Slalom Comptetition edition 29 cm.....hehehehehe

So, I wait to go out and post scores on GTC in my CRO AEOLUS TEAM, so we will see the progress or not :)

and in the and, my Fanatic Allwave is kind of crossover boards, not strictly wave board, 237 x 59 with freemove us box fin 23, and I ride it with combat power wave sail, sail is very powerfull for real, and I rig it very loos on boom, so I don't have problem with no power in sail, becouse I've got 63 kg weight :D

all fins I've got is a powerbox, and all fits only on eagle 113 board, my allwave is us box, and I've got only one default fin 23 with allwave

I forgot to wrote that: I may also ride my bro's boards: starboard carve 111 and fanatic triple x 109, also my friend got isonic 101, jp slalom IV, and this year, I hope I will to try Pierre's carbon art speed, with vapors and stealths :D

So, we will see this year's scores :D

photo left, on my profile, is Fanatic Eagle 113, 2007, 245x66 (5,0-8,5) with NP Excess 6,9 2006 sail :)

Hey warrior, did you say you are only 63kg?
If so I'm about 5kg heavier than you, and my best speeds have been done on a 5.2m sail (tushingham X15), an 75 litre board, (extensively modified wave board) and a 21cm fin, in 25kt to 30kt winds.

I've cracked a 30.44 on the dial (29.975 two second average) on a 4.7 zone and a 101 freestyle wave, so going fast on wave gear is possible, just need the right conditions.

Mind you on that particular day if I had had a 5.8 rs slalom and a 80 litre slalom board reckon I would have been in the very high 30's

Spotty has done over 40 knots on a SB Acid and a KA Wave sail. I have done 36+ on a Lorch Oxygen wave board with a 22 cm Wave fin and a KA Koncept 5.0.
Flat water and lots of wind and wave gear goes pretty ...... fast.

decrepit, you think that is no need to follow golden rules of Peter Hart and Dave White, becouse they allways say : " FAT IS FAST"

Weight certainly seems to be an advantage, some of the guys here wear weight belts. I've been thinking about trying it myself.
Think it's got something to do with power to drag ratio. The more weight the bigger the sail can be carried, But the drag doesn't go up by the same amount.

There's another factor involved as well, most speed gear is made for big guys, and doesn't suit light people quite as well.

So what is the perfect weight for max speed????

I,m 85kgs but am a short arse(bit like Decrepid).

I think height may play a part as you have more leverage on the rig.

Speed experts feel free to enlighten us..............

so, we lighter riders will fly...

Theoretically, (my theory anyway) I don't think there is a limit, but eventually you'll get to the point where the gear available isn't big enough.

And I'm sure you're right about height and leverage.
