Thumbs Up

Last night I ran a location recognition pass over all the tracks in ka72.com. There were over 3000 tracks on the site with no or poor location information in them, and to play safe, I ran it over all the tracks in the site.

The new version of the site (not up yet) will work this info out when uploading, and also allows for you to nominate an alternative name for a spot. I'm still ironing out some kinks (some foreign characters have not survived translation, and some tracks are simply not recognizable at all) but the update should be up in a few days.

In the meantime, if anyone can email me (dylan@ka72.com) coordinates, or a trackID, and your alt-name for the spot, I can ensure that when the update goes live, the right name is on the tracks.

(For instance, right now Sandy Point is being recognized only as "Australia." Too far from civilization, I guess. Lake Cootharaba is marked as "Boreen Point". Also, spots like Hardie's are now marked with their regional name or the name of a nearby town.)

The Location is taken from a point near the start of your track, so if you sailed from Ledge Point to Lancelin, the location will be "Ledge Point." Bear that in mind when sending me coordinates, that the best spot to pick is the place where your GPS gets turned on (ie on the beach.)

All this makes the "Big List" part of the site that much more interesting. I am also planning on adding some radial search, and advanced search functionality to the site soon. (eg, show me all tracks within 5km of this track, for instance.)

Cheers,

Dylan.
