made some fins to fit nice and snug in an early ca55, tried to fit them into 3 later model boards, a patrik slalom, jp 50 speed, and a jp slalom, I haven't used the ca a great deal so I dought the box is worn, has anyone came across the same problem
I have recsenty purchased a 2013 jp speed and found the back of the box isn't as deep, I have modified the fins to fit the jp50 and now there very loose in the ca55

I read somewhere that there was a metric version of the tuttle box and an imperial version. I don't know how true that is, but I think the article suggested that Starboard's tuttle boxes where a bit tighter than they should be.

I have always had to finish my fins or the box when it comes to tuttle. You can't just assume that a fin will fit without some sanding or a bit of filler. Especially the deep-tuttle fins as you just can't get them in if the fins too big.

I can vouch for that, somewhat. Before sanding, both the fins i use in my isonic 76 sat proud of the box.

Had the same thing happen, fin fits in one board then sits 2mm proud in the next. Was wondering why a standard measurement could be so far off.

Boxes from Cobra are different to CA. But all boxes from Cobra are the same in all brands apart from deep boxes of course.

Cobra finish off the inside of the boxes with quite a thick coating which is applied pretty randomly. If you feel inside the box you will easily find highs and lows. Before hacking in to your fins to get them to fit get inside the box with some sandpaper on a flat stick and take all the high spots off. Often that is all that is needed.

I got a couple of mXr fins and I had to sand them heaps to fit them width and depth wise into my tuttle box of my naish boards. I think it was because these fins were made for deep tuttle boxes.

maybe your rite dale, I checked the box for highs and lows and all's good , the box was shorter in length and depth, had to take about 3mm off the base of my c3 21,slingshot as well as both ends
I have allways thought there was 10mm clearance between the base of the fin and the bottom of the box in case you hit something and the fin move back in the box , not in this case the fin is tight hard up against the bottom of the box , now I have to adjust the fins im going to use in the board
I guess there's a lesson learnt, if you buy a new board make sure the fin is going to fit before you put it in the water

Or a new fin, I've found it very rare for a random fin to fit perfectly in a random board, it's either too tight or too loose.
The easiest way to adjust is on the back edge, it's the shortest, so there's less to take off or put on. Make sure when sanding not t create a convex edge, this will allow the fin to pivot, keep the edge slightly concave by using a narrow sanding pad, so you can concentrate on the middle.
