my Gt31 hasnt been used for a year ,but now when i charge up it wont hold charge. is this something that can be sent away and rectified or am i the owner of some outdated tech?
The GT 31 is outdated technology, but Locosys may be able to help with the battery.
I suggest you contact them and ask. I have found them very helpful in the past. You can send them the unit and they will check it out for you and quote on repairs if repair is an option.

They can be slow to reply around Chinese New Year - I am not sure if that is over yet.
Good luck
yep it's over, but I have a vague recollection of somebody else getting a local battery that fit.
If the battery has markings on it a google search may come up with the answer.
I had my Navi battery "balloon" and was unable to get a replacement locally so used a "similar" spare one I had from a camera that didn't work (after I pulled it apart and forgot how to put it together again :-) )
It worked for a while but due to the different AmpHr I think the "fuel gauge" got confused and it was unreliable switching off when it should be charged.
Best option is probably LocoSys... at least that way you wont have to worry about it catching fire.
Second option may be Canmore 101. for less than a $100. It reads only km/hr but as a land yachty that is probably what you want.
Windsurfers get the smaller 102+ for better waterproofing but the screen is tiny. The 101 has 2.25x bigger screen (3x3.3 cm vs 2x2.2 cm ) and uses regular phone battery. The software is the same.
My 17 year old son replaced the battery in mine after finding me a new one on Ebay [Lithium Polymer 1000mAh / 3.7 volt i think] for about $13 delivered from Hong Kong. He had to search a bit to get one the same dimension [especially thickness] of the oroginal. He had to cut the battery wires and solder join to fit it. Good son - its works fine and has endurance far in excess on my much newer second unit!
gotta say , ab it unimpressed by how long it lasted. With the sailing I do these days Im more likely to go to a garmin. the difference in the max speed reading between was alwas very always very close to the garmins anyway. and I can get AMG coords on the garmin.
thanks for all the advice
