Bugger, guess you'll have to enter manually until Peter comes up with a fix, have you notified him?

Try setting a different browser as the default browser to see if that works. I'd try the old Explorer (may already be installed with Windows 10, it is on my computer) or Firefox. Firefox will probably ask you if you want it to be the default browser when you open it. Edge probably does it, too, afterwards so you can revert back if you want to.

The next thing to check is privacy controls in the browser or in the security software (Windows or antivirus software you added). It's possible that it thinks the post operation tries to put some data on the page that should not go. Can't really tell you where to look, though, never had issues on my Windows 10 computer (which I use only when I have to, though).

Have had this just do it again it works the second time. Something to do with it saying the site is not safe.

That probably explains it. Everything in the US has to be encrypted (use https), otherwise things break. The GPSTC site works without encryption (using http, without the "s"). There are different time cutoffs for the different browsers when they enforce the use of https, and different ways it is enforced. Sometimes it is clear, other times things just fail.

I think at some time in the past, the GPSTC was only accessible through http, not https. That seems to have changed now, though. I'll change it in GPS Speedreader next time I release an update. Probably won't happen until after I started windsurfing again. We've been hunkering down due to both COVID-19 and cold weather, with air and water below 10 C. It should get warmer soon, though, and some beaches should be open (knock on wood).

I've just had the same problem in Mint using firefox, so it's not a windows thing. I forgot about trying twice so don't know if that would work. I just copied the numbers in. But firefox was recently updated, may be that's the culprit.
If I sail tomorrow I'll try from an older version.

How do you think my data got there????

Anyway, I got round to trying an earlier version of firefox, v69.0.1 works fine, but v75.0 doesn't. Not conclusive, as the earlier one was in Mint 18 and v75 in mint 19.

Well I've managed to get it working by installing the "chromium browser".
So that's fairly conclusive firefox v75 was my problem.
I don't know if there's a windows version of Chromium, or how long Chromium will keep working.

I've found Google Chrome to be the most stable of browsers. Firefox next. Safari somewhere... Explorer as distant last.

The only trouble with chrome, is all your stuff it send back to Google.
And stability isn't the issue here.

I have posted a new version (1.3.3) of GPS Speedreader at ecwindfest.org/GPS/GPSSpeedreader.html

In my tests on the Mac using Firefox, this version fixes the posting problem. It seems to be linked to opening a new tab or window for the GPSTC site, so now, the GPSTC post window is opened in the same tab. I also switched to using https instead of http to avoid potential problems with http.

I have not tested this on Windows or Linux, so please let me know if this fixes the problems you guys encountered. After reading some reports about problems with the last Windows updates, I will not update my Windows 10 computer until I have to.

My apologies for the slow response. COVID-19 has been messing me up a bit. Oz seems to be getting this under control, but Agent Orange here is sending tweets that contradict his own policies and encourage people to protest with signs that read "Freedom or death" and "Let the weak die". His newest idea is to inject disinfectant. If only he'd try his ideas out first!

We're above 50,000 official COVID-19 deaths in the US now. The actual number may be twice as high, since most states only report a death as COVID-19 if a positive test exists. But tests are still in short supply, or rarely done to keep numbers low in states like Texas; a couple of studies pretty much prove that the actual number of infections in New York is about 10x higher than the reported cases. Other states may be worse. Daily case numbers for the US are pretty much stable, even though they are going down rapidly in New York, the state with the most infections. We are on track for about 150,000 COVID-19 deaths within the next 2 months (covid19science.blogspot.com/p/covid-19-model-projections.html). That does not include the effect of several states relaxing restrictions, which will drive case numbers and deaths higher. Windsurfing where I live is still possible, but temperatures are still below 10 C. It is quite possible that they will close beaches when it gets warmer since tons of people are escaping the heavy-hit areas nearby. Pretty depressing - and Nina and I are quite lucky because we can work from home and have health insurance. Many of the millions who lost their jobs already also lost their health insurance.

Sorry about the off-topic rant. Let me know if the new version fixes the posting problems.

Thanks Peter, working in Linux firefox now, but there's a slight addition to your instructions. After extracting the GPSSpeadreader.jar file it needs it's permissions changed to "executable".

I can just imagine how frustrated you are, unable to do much about the idiot in charge, while people are dying because of his mismanagement.

I had to change my website to a htpps site as they were saying browsers and google were going to flag sites that weren't. It just means the site owner has supplied proof of ownership..
Maybe GPS speedreader is doing the same thing " looking after you' by not allowing you to go on the site because it itsn't htpps ??.. there might be a way to enable / whitelist some sites- sites you know are safe so it won't do it flag it again??....
When it first started most htpp sites came up with a warning 'unsafe ' but then you could click on another link ( flagged as not advisable) to get into a site you knew was ok.. That was a while ago I'm not sure if that still happens..

That was my first suspicion, but turned out not to be the problem. But the posting now uses https, anyway, to avoid problems in the future.
