I wonder what could be word record in alpha 500m while tacking instead of gybing? Do we have any example of the fastest tacks recorded on video?
Just as curiosity and appreciation of skills required to do quick planing tack...
Mick Kay from Budgie, fastest tacks ever.
+1 Mick Kay - the best quick tacks I have ever seen. Not too shabby on the gybes either.
If foiling is allowed in the competition, then it would take the win - it can stay foiling while tacking.

Video?
Robby shows how 1.55
Balz Muller at 49 secs.
more like duck gybe not tack 49s (?)

Do you not know the difference between a tack and a gybe ?

Duck tack (this one is old school - new school is going switch before ducking the sail). Both the sail movement and the foot work are more similar to a duck jibe than a tack, but the nose of the board turns through the wind, hence it is a tack.
With a sail, duck tacks and heli tacks are the only tacks where foiling through is possible. Going around the mast as in a regular tack puts the board down on the water - although the best guys keep enough speed to stay planing. With a wing, foiling through is possible, but harder than foiling through jibes.

thanks , I didn't know that
didn't realized that something like duck tack even exist
never to old to learn new tricks...BTW> I invented for myself , but never tried to implement " movable.rotating straps" .It may works like that only two straps , instead of four but installed on movable basis that slide over board. So we remain constantly with foot in straps but during the gybe or tack mechanizm switch position from top to bottom and vice verse. It could be also made as sort of straps mounted on carriers moving in groves in the board .Something reasonable safe, not to pinch our feets while sliding and changing. This sort of straps should provide us with ultimate control and stability of rough water.
