Over the coming week the tide will be high, the forecast is good. Time to attack the Woodman point speed strip.

I will be hitting the strip later in the day, after 6pm. This will provide higher tide and hopefully better wind. Also most of my highly strung kiting friends should have left the water.

I will follow my self imposed rule of "No speed runs while more than 60 kiters in the area"

Come and join us [}:)]

Just spoke to 25 and we are both keen for today. The more the merrier - I have never crashed into another windsurfer!

Nice work, almost took out a kiter everytime you went for a speed run, not a bad effort.

I was sailing at Woodies today and I actually thought the kiters and windsurfers coexisted pretty well.

But why not...go ahead and aggravate a situation if you wish...that's kiter style

Yes and no, I thought it was more about us giving way to you when you came through. Got a bit hectic when you guys were screaming through when we were hitting the slider, not an ideal time to be downwind of a kiter. Other than that I don't care it was pretty windy so it was speed sailing conditions.

Yeah it was mostly OK. Just a request though for kiters down there- if someone is on a run can you please lift your lines when we are approaching downwind. By the book, anyone on port is required to give way of someone going straight on starboard. Its pretty annoying when some kook thinks its funny to break this pretty universal safety rule. Only happened once though... most of the guys there were fine and mutual respect prevailed.

When it's that windy and stuff I have no problems with you guys being there, just have to understand that when we are hitting the slider there is a fair chance we might crash, and because you come so fast from behind us we don't always see you.

Sorry, I cant help myself[}:)]
You've just got to love the arrogance of "I have no problems with you being there" ... WTF ... do you think you OWN the place or something???

Perhaps you should take the slider somewhere else (like home for instance). I wonder what the council, CALM, or marine and harbours would think about a "hazard" being introduced to the waterway like that?

Hang on a sec, just putting the asbestos suit on ....... OKAY Flame away [}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]

Windsurfing in flat water is friggen gay, if its cranking then I guess if speeds your thing then go for it. Woodies flat side is kiters territory in light wind, in high wind it is both. The thing is when your going as fast as you guys do on a speed run it is very easy to not see you coming from behind.

The slider is in no ones way, if you have abn issue with it bring it up now or hold your breath. We put it there because no one can be dragged into it. Just asking that you guys share the water, if I'm not doing anything other than riding along I will let the speed runner right of way, go for it. If someone is on the slider I just don't think it's a great idea to crank past downwind for either party's.

You can bitch on about starboard and port as much as you like but those rules are useless for general woodies sailing. Who ever is actually going for a manouvere, etc. speed run or trick has right of way. It's the way it works there.

The right of way thing I mentioned was referring to further down past the ramp where no "pulling off" moves were going on, just kiters coming back upwind. Will try to guess when you are going to be on the ramp when I start my run from out past the rocks where its too scary for kites. FYI the ramp is located at about the best place to start a speed run. I dont see any prob when its windy as long as kiters keep an eye out and lift their lines when required. We will try to avoid going downwind when it looks like you are about to do something incredibly amazing- more for self preservation than awe. Please look before busting that move. "Sharing is caring".

I love this.
Certainly gets my adrenalin and competitive spirit fired up when someone gets all surf nazi.

Good to see a place that was once regarded as a Sh*& hole is getting so much attention.
