Manly has the smothest water. Probably your best bet. VP and Wello are too choppy.

Manly fine for a start, run broad over the bank still easy 35+ knots to be had there in se'er.

Ne'er-
low tide windy- lota creek
low-mid tide- wello (pain in a$$ with kites)

Se'er
High tide Wello Southern reef
mid-low tide Wello North reef
low tide big wind forecast Burrum
low tide windy The Train (short runs, boats, sandbars)

S/Se'er
Low tide Vic Point Bank
High tide Vic Point near creek

With the exception of Lota, Burrum & The Train no where is flat or much benefit over manly. Unless super windy I prefer open water runs as you can change angles to keep powered. You could suck up to steve & he'll fly you to a proper spot.

With how light you are in 20knots borrow a speed board at some point, you'll be addicted, they have several more gears than slalom board.

Start to learn from the fast guys, there is lots of subtle tuning & technique changes.

Hi elke,

Come down to manly. we are all friendly and will be happy to show you were to sail and help with technique pointers etc.
the guys above are all good fellows who like to joke, especially mkseven. manly is good in all wind conditions and directions.
he's having a bit of a joke with you in his wind direction post.

aww boardboy, i'll sail with ya when you stop being so busy working & hunting & stuff. I'll never give up wello, love the variety of conditions too much.

Manly/RQ is sailable in all directions, it must be ok as all of the fastest sailors sail or occasionally sail there. There are fast sailors & fast spots, manly produces the former.

Now, Now Mk. Doing 25kts on a wave board and making a video of it doesn't make it speed sailing. Even if it is at Manly...

I can't believe no-one has mentioned the Redcliffe speed strip yet! All the wind you want and flat as a tack.

Don't need to borrow the GPS mate. Just need to get out and sail. I'm a bit scared of the shallow water though. Read some tips posted on here that it is good to sail in shallow water... Not going to take the advice.

I thought everyone knew about the Queens speed strip already, so didn't suggest it.

There is over 10 lady sailors floating around, im amazed too!

As for the rest who mentioned location vs location, fact is that op's regular sailing spot is fine for learning to speedsail & a great training spot for it after that, fact that the fastest guys in qld sail there often but then they sail when & where the wind is & dont sit on the beach waiting for flat water talking about how fast they are.

Yes but flat water (and wind) equals speed so even the fastest guy in QLD sails from Manly to Wello bank or Lota for the best numbers. All that part in the middle is plain old good fun but the numbers don't lie. The OP is asking for Speed Locations and from where he launches the closest is Wello and Lota for flat water.

Ilke - I suggest having a look on www.ka72.com/ and you can type in locations to see speeds and people's tracks. This gives a good insight to where people are achieving their numbers. This combined with GPSTC shows who's quick and where.

It's also good to note what Mark is trying to point out if you can handle your gear with good speed in rougher conditions when heading to some smoother water it will only make your numbers better. Some of the fastest guys in Australia all sail in the bay (Manly/Wello) so just stick with them and ask for pointers if required.

Cheers
Marty

Why do you get on SB and tell everyone how fast you are??? lol Shouldn't you be on the beach doing it... haha
