Are there any shops in the Melbourne/Geelong area that sell them or do i need to buy one online? I had a look around some old threads but it seems the places and websites that were stocking them aren't anymore.
Cheers, Moose.

I've been using a Suunton Ambit s2. Originally bought it for the gym to calc calories etc... it's a really awesome watch for sports, but it's not spot on for 2-sec peaks. I'm also keen to buy a GT31, but like the fact my Suunto is on my wrist. When are they going to come up with a real device that measures speed, gps, etc that fits on my wrist?

Yep, they're getting very hard to find now, and will get harder, as they are no longer in production.
At the moment there's no equivalent device, but there are a few irons in the fire.

The Canmore 102, makes an equivalent file to the GT31 for analysis, and it does have a display, but the font is very small and hard to read on the water.
But it will get you by until another windsurfing friendly GPS come on the market.

My new one just arrived today. Am powering it up now and downloading instructions at the moment. Thought I would just check out Seabreeze while waiting and this post popped up.
Purchased online from SHQ Boardsports, Melbourne. Don't know how many they have left.

Have charged mine up and set up according to online instructions. ( No CD with item ). Instructions state that max. SD Card is 2GB. Can not find a Card that small in my area. One shop said none of the retailers sell this size any more. Can a larger size (6 or 8 GB ) be used.
Any advice?
Cheers

No, they just don't work, and not all 2gb cards will work either, they need to be the right voltage.

surfsail australia had some in for sail with their gt31s, but if they are out of stock of gt31s, maybe they have no cards left either.

The other alternative is swap with somebody who has a 2gb card or less in an old bit of kit. 500mb is still a huge memory in a GT31 it'll last you for years without clearing it.

What you are saying is as long as the card is 2GB or less it is ok. I have a 1GB card in an old camera that is not being used although not sure if it is compatible. Will give that a go until I source a 2GB card.

Cheers.

If it's a sandisk you'll have no problems. There is a list somewhere of known compatible cards, but I can't remember any of the other brands on it.
There's almost no advantage to having a 2gb card, I've got a GT11 with a 1gb card, that's been going for 7 years.

the paqua midi is my favourite, made in Aus, close to ideal size, and providing you fold it as recommended doesn't leak and lasts better than others I have tried.
Although somebody on this forum complained of a leak, I've only had a bit of dampness get in to an old worn out one. After quite a while the sealing arrangement does wear out, but it's not a catastrophic failure like some other brands.
Getting something cheap may cost you more money if you drown the GPS!

Probably never, and thank goodness for that!

Locosys made a watch form prototype recently that was pretty much universally criticised by it's testers for being in watch form! Lots of other things about it were potentially really good about it, but making it in a 'watch' form severely compromised its function. To mention some: tiny antenna with limited reception, very limited battery life and storage capacity, shakes around too much while sailing, goes facedown if you use the underhand front grip and looses clean reception and worst of all, too hard to read while sailing!.

The suggestion was that they try again using the same technology in a small rectangular logger that can be worn in other ways, especially in an upper arm bag.

SHQ is out of the gt-31 but they still have the bgt-31 which is $40 more.
nzsailing has the gt-31 for NZ$195 (i think about AU$180) and will also do free shipping to Australia.

Also found a Paqua Midi on ebay. $47 with postage.

I think you're right on the money there, the bgt is a designation for Bluetooth which from memory no-one's found a use for yet. I'd go for the one from across the ditch, and the paqua is very popular.

1Gb is more than enough memory. My 76 sessions over 20 months are taking up 21.5mb - that's 0.021 Gb.

If you or anyone get stuck, my shop (www.netplus.com.au) have 2gb SD cards in stock in Perth.
