Hi all ,
Just wondering what would be a good gap in sail size . just trying to decide what size to go down from, have a 6.7 RS4 should I go 5.8 or 5.4 . fairly big guy , would the 6.7 give me the range down to a 5.4 or do I rig big at 5.5 type weather with a 5.8.
So it begs the question what size down after 5.8 ?
Basically back and forth gps sailing .
any help much appreciated .
Cheers Ant
I reckon the 5.8 would be the go. This should cover you in most GPS back and forth sailing conditions when it gets too windy for the 6.7 and if you can at some stage get a smaller sail for those "once a year" conditions (a 5m), you'd be set. I have 11.0, 7.8, 6.5, 5.6 and 4.6 sails and these cover most all of my sailing requirements (at 94 kg)!!
Thanks AUS 2,
Seems to line up with what the guy says on that web site I referred to .
94 kgs , mmmm one day I'll get back there . till then 30 kgs to lose !
Cheers .
Hi dartboy,
I also have a RS4 6.7 as my biggest sail. I then have a 5.8 and a 5.0 Koncepts, with these 3 sails you will have everything covered easily for flat water speed stuff. I was also 98 kilos but now come in at 78 and the combo still works just as well. (just eat protein)
I used to have a RS4 5.8 but trashed it a few months ago, now have plenty of spare battens and cams. was a fantastic sail.
A good rule of thumb for gear sizing when comparing to other sailors -> increase its size by 0.5m for every 10kg increase in body mass, or so. eg: 80kg for a 6m sail, would be about 7.0m for a 100kg sailor, or thereabouts.
