Hi Speed Crew, so ive nuked 3 cheaper Gps watches. Looking to waterproof a Canmore Tw102. Only want something small.
1.Would this be suitable for use?
2.My hat has a pocket on top. Could i put Canmore in a few clipseal bags n wear in hat? Keen to get some idea of my speeds again, without spending a lot of $$.
Cheers.
hi olskool, i stole one of my wife's tupparware containers and tape it inside the boom or in me back pack works great ,also use to put it in a couple zip bags and on me helmet in a watertight phone bag, but watch out the phone bags will tear and leak
Two clip seal bags inside a very small plastic 'snack box' worked fine for me for the life of my Canmores. They never saw a drop using that method. Very cheap and effective! ![]()
I'm not sure what a Canmore Tw102 is, Google doesn't spit anything useful out.
Nonetheless, I got a pretty good idea how to waterproof electrical devices. Could you post some pics of it, ideally of its internals?
I have been just using 2 snaplock bags for the last 3.5 years, just toss the outer one after every session & use a new one for inner bag next session. Don't forget it comes out set on recording interval of 5 sec, you need to set that back to 1.
If you don't know how to do that go into settings [looks like a spanner & screwdriver crossed] , right click brings up log, right click again brings up log rule, right click again you get right click arrow in time box, right click again will bring up time parameters, 1, 5, 10, 30 & 60. click away until you get arrow in 1 sec box then just go back to main menu by left clicking holding each time till it goes back to main menu.
With all the problems they seem to be having with GW60 [ should be called a GW30 since its half as good as it should be] I have gone back to using Canmore 102, when there new seem accurate enough. Over time depending how many sessions they do they start to drop recording every sec & only do every 2sec & occasionally 3. only really affects alphas when that happens. You can still pick them up on e-bay for $70-$80, great backup to watch & battery life is about 14 hrs, memory 3Mb holds quite a few sessions.
^^ Thanks for the setup info Pete. The 2 clippy bags idea sounds good. I plan on sailing with it in a pocket under my hat. I dont wear an impact vest or flotation device. Would this be ok?
As long as the pocket isn't a water absorbing material. ( say like neoprene) Water seems to be an excellent medium for absorbing satellite radio waves. My experiments with Canmores: in a plastic case mounted on the outside of my backpack, I got good signal quality. In the pocket of my backpack, the signal quality was not as good and dropped to hopeless once the backpack was wet. The lesson here, just don't fall off ![]()
Thanks for the tech tips Fangy, i wear a O+E bucket style hat. Pocket in top. Its only thin material which dries quickly. Guess its test time.?? What?? No Wind.... . Bah
