Hi, I have opportunity to purchase a c3 venom for slalom sailing. I have quiver of tectonics goldwing so they're my "reference" fin. Can somebody tell me the "equivalent" venom length to a 38cm goldwing? By that I mean equivalent in planing power?
I know that the venoms have to be bought a size bigger.
So, would a 40cm venom be "equivalent" to the 38cm goldwing, or should I get a 42 cm venom?
Basically, I want to make sure that the new venom is noticeably more powerful than my 36 cm goldwing. When the wind drops and the 36 is not lifty enough - I want to pop in the venom and go...

Out of interest, what size board and sail?

An older (2003?) mike's lab - 58 cm, 95 liter slalom board. Used with 7.6 tr4 and 7.0 tr3. I use the 7.6 with a 40cm fin and the 7.0 with 36cm goldwing.

I just ordered the 40cm venom which hopefully will be used in both weak 7.6 and strong 7.0.

I'm too lazy to rerig when wind changes, so I hope to increase range with some fin swapping..

I use a 7m loft blade and a sonic 100 with a 32 goldwing and a 38 Venom and the Venom is better in 15 knots but the goldwing is better in 18+.
I would guess that a 36 goldwing would be more like a 42 as the venom is soft in the tip and has a bit more rake. The sting in a 40 might be a better bet for lift.

I agree with Lao Shi The 40 will not make much more power than the 38.

Sting is a much better option.

For that size board I reckon the Venom 40 will be big enough, even with the 7.6 (which is a pretty big sail for that size board). I've used both the Venom 40 and Sting 40 in a 107L iSonic and the Sting 40 certainly has a lot more lift, but I reckon it would be too much for a 95L board and the Venom 40 is probably the better choice, especially if you will be using it with the 7.0m and wanting a one fin fits all solution!! Be interesting to hear how you go with it.
