Hi gurus, I have posted this in another forum as well and would like feedback from anyone who can help.

Thanks to Alby I have firmware update Version 1.62 (B1115) on my Navi.

Can someone plesae advise me of any settings that are a must and their value, here is what I have done. I have followd MTbests instructions and the ones mentioned here are the ones I guessed needed to be looked at.

NMEA BIN ALIGN - off by default
Speed average time - 1 sec
Speed genie - Off as I have no idea what this is

#@%$^^ old age, swear I just relied to this, must have hit the wrong button!
OK I'll have another go.

Bluetooth - Off

woops, not sure about this, but I'm sure somebody posted problems with the bluetooth version, something about latest firmware not working properly with it, if you have trouble you may need to check on this.

>>>
Speed average time - 1 sec

This works in speed genie and is the speed that the average is calculated for, and the 10 best results are held in memory. I have mine set to 10sec, that way by looking at the best 5 I have an idea of my 5X10.

Speed genie - Off as I have no idea what this is

This is a smart idea, meant to alleviate the problem of operating the toggle inside the aquapack. At the set speed, it resets the maxspeed display, so you can see the fastest speed for that run. I have mine set to 30kn, but may set it a bit lower, as on longer runs when I drop below 30kn in the middle of the run, I only see the max speed for the end of the run. Trouble with setting it too low is that it will reset on the upwind leg, I find I stop more often at the end of the return run than the end of the downwind run.

DATA LOGGER -
Interval - off by default
Min speed - 1 kts

this is another good innovation, it records in .bin files that are much smaller than the old track files. the old way only records 2.5hrs the datalogger records 7.5hrs or more.
Set Interval to 1sec
Min speed about 3kn (this is the speed above which recording starts, meant to get rid of time spent walking around.

I think to get the best of the datalogger all catergories under "track" should be turned off.

More thoughts.

when you record .sbn files to the memory card, you need to read the data off the card with a card reader, "navilink" doesn't recognise the .sbn files in the GT11

"Datalogger" continually puts the latest data at the top of it's file, dropping the oldest off the bottom, so there's no need to clear it, like you had to with the old "track" file. If you want to import that to computer, you just have to hit "save to card". It could take quite a while, you'll see a progress bar come up. When that's finished you can read the .sbp file off the card

Updated to v1.62 B1115 on my own NAVi today.

Followed the instructions on MtBest site, but have a question regarding setting the NMEA ITEMS; MtBest only mentions setting SBN to 1sec (which I've done).

When I set up my NAVi for v1.5 last year I followed Roo's instructions (as per "Roo's NAVi GPS user guide" thread) which involved setting NMEA ITEMS GGA, GGL, GSA, GSV, RMC and VTG to 1sec.

Should I be doing this for v1.62 B1115 as well?

Think you only have the one option, if you set "SBN" it cancels out the others.
If you set the others, they cancel out SBN.

Roo's guide came out before binary logging was available (SBN).

Binary is supposed to be more reliable, so setting SBN to 1sec is the preferred option.

Ta muchly Decrepit.

I did notice that when I set SBN, it became highlighted in the display and all the other (previously highlighted) formats instantly lost theirs - your post explains why nicely - and also (I'm guessing) why the file sizes are so much smaller and you can therefore fit much longer sessions onto the DataLogger and SD Card, seeing as (it sounds like) you no longer need to record these other formats.

Cheers!
