I'm looking to re-box some G10 slalom fins converting them to the dreaded Weedie config.
In the past I've used the Select "converta" box and fitted the fin in that, but it does weaken the fin as you have to thin the fin down to insert it into the adapter.
I would like to cast the head onto the fin so as to make it more robust and what I would like advise on is:
Hi Elmo i asked Boogie the same question his reply was:
hi meta,
for the first year or so i just used normal laminating epoxy resin
filled with fibre filler [cotton flock] to make the bases. sometimes
even a patch of carbon or glass cloth layed in, but later switched
over to a latex rubber fiilled resin that is a lot tougher. best thing
to use though, but i never could get my hands on it in nzl, would be
casting polyurethane resin. it has similar properties than the
rubberised epoxy [HPR5 by ATL] but cures a lot faster. talking minutes
versus hours inclusive elevated temperature here
cheers
