I had my first taste of speed sailing on weed, Lilacs Albany. Excited to get it on again.
My questions are the tuning tips to make everything work.
My kit was
NP 2017 Hellcat 6.7
2015 JP slalom 108x66
Delta 21.
Mast foot all the way back
Seat harness
I was plenty lit on the 6.7 but not out of control.
I spent too much time tweaking and not enough on the weed strip.
I found that i was spinning out more than usual. Yep, heavy back foot and too much rear hand.
Moving harness lines around to reduce the spinout worked but the formula is still vague.
Heavy back hand so i moved the front harness strap back to increase front hand.
How does boom height change the rear foot pressure?
Does moving mast foot fwd assist in increasing front foot pressure?

AHHHH Lilacs smooth, beware this stuff is highly addictive, people travel halfway round the state to get their fix!
As far as foot pressure, goes boom height and mast base position sort of go hand in hand. Moving mast base forward and lowering the boom, moves the rig effort forward, mast back and boom up move rig effort back.
However shifting mast position also affects downward force on the nose. For going fast in dead flat water, you don't want the board trimming too flat as your wetted area will be too high. So the mast base should be as far back as you can get it without causing tail walking problems. Then adjust boom height so rig effort is about between your feet, with sail raked back just short of the deck. Or whatever work best for you.
The deltas are notorious for spinning out, the only way I found to alleviate is to push the mast foot forward a bit, this way you don't press too hard on the back foot. Also when a gust hits don't sheet in too quickly, first sheet out a bit and bear off gradually.
Start with everything set for normal sailing. Start moving the mast door back 24mm from normal position. After a few runs move it back more until the board consistently spins out, then move it forward 25mm. Boom height may need to move up. Lines are a personal preference , I like a slight BH weight so I don't oversheet. Good luck, btw magic spot, I had a peak at it yesterday ??

Hey Dave,
I have the same sail. Dont be worried about cranking the downhaul on. I have found you can even use 2cm less extension to get the sail low to the mastfoot. So I use a X9 460 mast with 30cm NP extension when the specs say 32cm. If you are using a FX100 you can play around with 30-32cm ext.
I set my NP boom to 218cm with adjustable outhaul.

I have JP 124l x 78 wide & 108l x 66 wide.
Do you find that fins help extend TOW? ie bigger in light wind & smaller in heavy wind with this sail.
Whats the min & max wind you take it out in?

The fins make a big difference. I use the 7.8 on Falcon 129 (80 wide) with Sting 44cm and Falcon 114 (71 wide) with Talon 40cm.
Im pretty hopeless with wind strength but I would say 14 to 20-23??

I keep the downhaul the same and use outhaul for tuning. Less downhaul feels heavy and sluggish. They like downhaul but dont overdo it, kills the power :-)

I used my TRX 7.7 with a Naish speed 60 last month. That's 60L not 60cm! I will admit the 6.3 did feel a bit better, but once on the plane it was surprisingly comfortable.
