Just want to make a few points here.

It seems their are 2 categories of interest in the Challenge the deadly "Serious", and the alively 'Social".

At this stage for this year, will not formalise this, but if the Challenge proves successful, will run it next year........, and then have 2 divisions.

So for the purposes of this year the Division will only be psychological!! The serious teams will know they are serious and the social teams the same.

Within Teams there will be the serious, and the social, keep it psychological.

I encourage both, as both are valid concepts, and incorporated into the Challenge.

For the deadly serious, you all know what you want out of this, so no need to read further, the rest of what I have to say is for the alively social!!

Keep in mind the 4 principles:

Inclusiveness: this was designed, so you were included too!!!!!!
Participation: Keeps us involved in the sport all year round, the shops benefit, you benefit, physically, and develop as a windsurfer.
Fun: We gonna have fun, and you get fit, and enjoy the sport all year.
Building relationships: This is already happening, and I'm sure you all know the benefits of this. WA people,Think about what Reg's speed weekends ahve been like! QLD Windwanderers etc. We need to take that element of it and develop it.

Windsurfing at speed is also about developing skills and technique, we can all learn how to windsurf better, and some elements of GPS mean you want to sail more in oder to give yourself a better chance of performing better, so More time on water has multiple benefits.

Caution: Now there is a word of caution here, and that is the obsessive element of GPS. If your not careful it can take some of the enjoyment out of windsurfing. I'll explain how, with my own personal example. I have had some blistering runs, where the feeling has been totally exhilirating!!!!!!!!, Then I've looked down at my GPS seen a slower time than I was expecting/wanting, and then felt disappointed!!!!!!! Don't get sucked into this!!!! Yes use it as a learning skill development tool, but psychologically disconnect the enjoyment factor of your windsurfing. I'm sure you'll all experience this and find your way through it!!!

I'd like some others to have their say about both the divisions concept, and Social Speedsters, and what they can get out of this, including how to avoid the pitfall of getting obsessive about the speed on your GPS dial and losing some of the enjoyment of the ride!!

Well put Hardie. I get a buzz just getting a sail, so for me its time on the water that counts. This buzz is multiplied by sailing with like minded people that enjoy the same thing.

Getting together with a bunch of crew who want to have a crack at stretching their own sailing abilities is really what this is about. we all know who the real speed demons are out there and they get just as much buzz/stoke factor at gettting a 40knt PB as us normal sailors get out of cracking PB of 33.5knt(sorry hardie had to drop that one in). The point i,m trying to make is. GET OUT THERE, have a crack and do it with your mates.

Cheers Bender

Gotta agree with all here. Windsurfing is just plain fun and if you do it for other reasons like attention or status your missing the point. A day on the water with your mates is joy whether it be flat water blasting or sweet waves.
Personally Im looking forward to sailing with guys who are heaps better than me so I can learn and get better. I still think even if you are pushing hard to go fast its still a buzz.
Maybe you should do 2 divisions next year but Im eager to see what everybody gets out of this "all in" thing.
All we need is some wind

My input, cant add too much to what you have already said. Your not just a pretty face then
GPS bit, yep found this out racing Karts, can be painful when you think you are on the pace and reality check when you download lap times
Gets you looking at set up, just to tweak it for that last bit. But all in all, you have documented it just fine.

Is that why they wear their undies and boardies over their wetties??
I knew there must of been a reason, the dark side is evil.
Nice one Fitz
