I'm working, no wind here, foot straps are U/S and my feet have blisters, but boy oh boy that 200 is like a big neon sign to a moth

Wrong end of our season now (FNQ) so I can see it slip away

Gday Kato,
not sure about where you guys sail in vic but i think we are going to need some decent daylight time here to get the chance for 300k's sail in, this means possibly waiting for a good day closer to xmas (longer daylight hours) that coincides with an early seabreeze and i recon a steady 15 to 20kn, any more wind and the fatigue factor goes up as well as the chop, which would build up through the day.

Snides,Its an interesting problem.Got a few locations in mind. The Pit is one with its smooth water but short runs. The other locations offer long runs but more chop. For me 25kt is ideal but the problem has been good wind not daylight.Should be able to crack 300 in about 10 to 12 hours, its just going to come down to having the right conditions/location and mind set for the day.All pretty hard to come by at the moment, its beeen at really crappy winter for wind.Lets hope All,s crew bring some with them for some fun and games

Snides mate
How long did you actually sail for - start and finish times, minus any substantial breaks? You said you had lunch, changed boards and fins a few times etc.
What do you reckon the all up water time was??

Pd,
thats a tough one i just sifted through over 23000 track points and i am estimating 3 stops for a total of 66 minutes.the gps was on from 10.37am to 18.36 so right on 8hrs.
not sure how to properly extract the exact data,i can send you the file but its about 2.5mb in size.
i think from memory my all up ave for the total time on the display was 12.9 something knots, which would included the stops.
be interesting to see Claudes data as i dont recall seeing him on the beach at all maybe one of the other guys can confirm.

I only remember seeing Claude go in once after 3 or so hours most of the time he was out of sight, I think he came in for ablout 15mins if that to grab a drink.

Steve if you put the Navi on "record above 3knots only" then it shouldn't record when you walk around or stand on the beach but still will record even when slogging. Then at the end of the day you can divide the number of track points by 60 for sailing minutes and 3600 for sailing hours. I note you only dropped one of 80 gybes so waterstarting time would be insignificant..or you could count it as resting :-))

thanks Dave,
i do have my navi set at 2kn or 3kn i think, thanks for the solution, you have to remember i am a simple plumber

6.6 hrs sailing
on that basis 6.6hrs for 196k's = 29.69km/hr?
= 16.04knots ave speed while sailing....does this sound right?
