While there is not much wind i'm doing some maintenance on my speed boards which is the way to go the so called speed finish or highly polished ? I no the latest mistrals are smooth as so i thought that is the way to go just a bit more work or the good old speed finish or is this only good for low to moderate speeds I don't know. Please help me decide friction gurus! Thanks!
Hey, Strop, sometimes a fraction too much friction is a good thing!
But seriously, I'm in the sand fin with 1000 grit, polish board to buggery camp. ![]()
The golf ball finish is best only because the ball is spiinning. unfortuneatly you cant spin your board.
While we're at it in the doldrums, I also have an untested theory that we could sand the first third of a fin's profile with 1000 grit and polish the rest. This should ensure laminar flow at the critical leading edge and reduce drag in the tail section of the foil. If anyone's got time to test this have a go and let me know!
You could polish the whole thing then take to the front third with 1000 grit. Easy.
