Just also to mention... Al and I are both renting houses for the two weeks -> if the Melbourne guys just want to come down for the weekend, there should be enough room for you to pitch your sleeping bag on the floor. The more the merrier!

Cool Goo Screw be good to get down again.
Strange flights are pretty exy heading down but coming back there cheaper.
Might be because of the school holidays in Sept.

Vando,
Try www.iwantthatflight.com.au
It quickly lists all flights and costs without having to go into separate airline websites. Very handy.

hope you get some great winds and PBs for the comp.

Looks like we will have a good turn-out again this year for the speed event, also good to see Vando has finally plucked up the courage to challenge the elements again this year after first opting to give it a miss, plus I hear he is determined to beat some really old guy this time as well...

A limited number of event tee shirts will also be available this year, simular to previous years, cost $25.ea.. anyone requiring one let me know, first in first served..

We will have some GT11's (tried, tested and trust-worthy) available for those requiring a GPS. @ $150..

The random draw prize giveaways for Speed fortnight 2008 are.;
1x $300.Gift voucher from Surf Sail in WA.
2x $250.Gift vouchers from Surf Sail in WA.
4x $50.Gift vouchers from Surf Sail in WA.
Total value $1,000.
2x sets of lockable tiedowns from SPT.
1x Gath helmet. from Gath.
8x sets of harness lines from John at Stuart Bell Sails WA.
2x mast extensions from John at Stuart Bell Sails WA.
2x uphauls from John at Stuart Bell Sails WA.

Yes I am Vando. But I'm not as old as Al!

I may not be such a pushover this year though. I'm booking my body in for a 500,000 Km tune up and service. Unfortunately, they tell me they can't do anything for my mind. It's completely shot!
I may be able to pick you up too depending on the day and time as I have a few errands to run to the big smoke at some time or other. Just don't know exactly when yet, but keep us informed of your travel arrangements. It'll be good to see you here again.

Yeh and I am giving Vando all the chances in the world to redeem himself to his past (and lost) glory, I haven't had my speed board on the water since Sandy Point last year, have only sailed a total of about 6 hours since then also, have had my knee in a brace for the past week (thought I was 21 not 61), so he has NO excuses this year even if the wind doesn't blow, I think if he cant beat a disabled pensioner by at least a 5 knot (5x10) average he should give up sailing and take up crochet with grandma.
Hey guys don't you think that is a fair call ??...
I see that Daffy is not as generous as myself, you can be my backup Daffy..

Well - looks like the banter is warming up. Really looking forward to it Al. I have a couple of work things interrupting the first week but am trying to keep second week free for many days on water. Tides are at more favourable hours in the second week by the look. Fingers crossed for some good conditions What categories are people trying for this year - just 5X10 or Alpha too? Any cut-offs or just sail as much as possible...

Both the 5x10 and Alpha will be on, although some of the guys only do one. Sail as much as possible during daylight hours.
Vando has gone quiet, don't think he likes my stirring..

This might be an interesting one for the Bookies...
Al coming off some huge numbers at the Pit last year
and vando showing top form of late and will be expected to be carrying some impressive new heavy weaponry.
I might have to wait and see how lame the old war dog is before I place my bets.

Tom, Thanks, no doubt I will see you there again this year...

Brick head, Yeh have had a stuffed knee, had to watch all the guys sailing on the weekend as I didn't want to chance it, I will keep that for when I am blasting past Vando at Sandy point,, actually had the brace of yesterday but didn't do anything exciting so it is healing..

Thinking of getting a NAVi for the Speed Fortnight - Allan's got one available but no Aquapac to go with it.

Not much use without an Aquapac!!

Did a ring around the local shops, but everyone seems to be out of them.

Seem to recall a while back a Seabreeze user was building and selling waterproof cases specifically for GPS speedsailing.

Have a feeling they were a hard-cased style with a flat plate front (so you can read the GPS display better than through the Aquapac's) and with better waterproofing and impact protection than the Aquapac's. As they were custom-sized to fit a particular GPS (can't remember if this was the Foretrex or the NAVi though) they also offered better protection as the GPS couldn't move around inside them as compared to the Aquapac's.

Also have a feeling the maker was from WA?

Did a few searches on Seabreeze threads, but can't turn up any mentioning this - anyone recall this one?

Anyway, if anyone knows where I could get a GPS casing by the weekend please let me know!

Cheers!

PM GP747( he is in the philipines)
He made me one for my NAVI. I have been through two aqua packs and they just split. GP's is way better, its stronger and way more comfortable
