I am getting a bit confused.
We currently have three different Firmware in our various GT-11
In the Firmware 1.61 (B0702a) and 1.62 (B0910a) under MEMORY CARD, NMEA ITEMS you can pick BIN 1 sec, which turns all the other ones (GGA, GLL etc) off. On Tom's website he says to change it to BIN for the latest version 1.62 (B0910a) - do I change it on the 1.61 (B0702a) one too?
Both versions have DATA LOGGER the newer one 1.62 has a selection DATA ITEM where you choose SBP, but the 1.61 version does not have that - will the BIN setting on the 1.61 still work?

I don't just want to upload the newest firmware, as the unit with the newest firmware has been the most unreliable one, when it comes to successfully having all your sessions recorded. Last time nothing was on the Memory Card but luckily the internal memory worked.

Another issue we are having is that we open the GPS files on the memory card after a session and find 10-20 files, lots very small and usually one or two big ones with the data - what is going wrong?

Thanks

try setting file size to card size see if that helps.

Your navi depending on what version, should be set on sbin or bin for the card it will show only one option.
Im not sure why there are diff file extensions for data logger and memory card maybe it has something to do with the size of the file.
You can save allot more data on the card then in the data logger.
Or it just to distinguish between data logger file or card file.

Nat thought mineral and I had already said to set memory card to "card size" have you done this, and still getting multiple files????

DATA LOGGER refers to the internal memory, and shouldn't affect what goes on the card.

I've also loaded the latest firmware (B0910a), it's writing to the SD card fine, but it's only writing waypoints to the internal memory. No trackpoints, means I no longer have a back up.
I have DATTA LOGGER set to "TRK" I'll try it on "SBP" and see if that helps.

Any idea about "dop" under "function" menu, mine's set to "0"?

Hi Decrepit

I've got the file size set to card size.

You have to have the Data logger set to SBP with the new version, that is probably why you are not getting an internal log.

Don't know about the "dop" setting.

OK the only other thing that comes to mind is satellite fix. If you've got log set to "on fix" as Tom recommends, it probably also ends the file on loss of fix, then starts a new one when fix is reestablished.
So next question is how/where are you wearing the navi?? Can it get shielded from the sky in any way?

OK I've set it to SBP, (which apparently means sbin packed) Navilink still doesn't work, I just get an empty folder now, not even waypoints!
But I can now save the internal memory to SD card and realspeed gives the same results from both files. Interestingly the SBP file is about a 10th the size of the SBIN file. Guess that's what they mean by "packed"

Nat, I've had another thought, it could be the opposite problem, if you don't have "on fix" selected, you'll get a new file every time the unit is turned on. So when you turn it on to download that will make a new file, but it won't have much in it because you are stationary.

The front of the file name is the date and time, were they created while sailing????

Hi Decrepit

when I was sailing the GPS slipped around my arm and was facing towards the water - do you think that would cause the interrruptions?

Nat, apparently it does, and you get a few files with date.BIN extension. Same thing happened too me. Files are not big. Mine wasn’t so much it slipped, I stopped for a breather on Saturday ,and I took it off and sat it inside boot lid for 10-15 mins.

As Mineral says, I think it's possible. especially if the time coincides with when you were sailing.
Can't remember who, but some bright spark came up with the idea of sewing an extra piece of velcro to the inside of the strap, so it grips the wetsuit.
Great idea, makes it easier to put on by yourself, and get the band tight, and stops it slipping.
