Hopefully making the trek down for October with the Cockroaches, I was wondering what sort of temps we could be looking at for this time period??
It will be nearly 20 years since I was last there and being a lot older and rounder I was curious.
Trying to figure out what to bring for getting wet and hanging out.

Water temps are not too bad but wind chill can be a problem if standing around waiting for the wind to drop below 45 knots so you can have a run.

What wetsuits do the locals wear? Are we talking a 3/2 steamer or 5/3 steamer?

A good 5/3 would be nice. I get a new 3mm every year and wear a SS radiator vest and/or 2mm sleeveless vest, booties, helmet and weight jacket or buoyancy vest which helps a lot to insulate the body core. Throw on a jacket, gloves and a beanie when standing around on the beach.
3/2 steamer is fine November through to April....mostly.
I,ve been wearing a long sleave thermal under the rash vest,it seems to help on the realy cold days when ya feet go numb.

I cut the arms off my new 3/2 steamer for Sydney conditions but now wish I hadnt.
Might have to invest in one of those titanium vests me thinks, also some booties.

Hey Kato are you talking the sports type thermals like Skins? I wear a long sleeve compression top at soccer as well as nicks under my shorts but they also make the garments for training when it's cold and you got me thinking these might work...Has anyone ever tried those under their wettie?
Oh and Larko, yes it was sunny and nice and windy but I'll be buggered if you're able to sail anywhere cause of the damn stingers. 'Apparently' global warming forcing the water temps up has extended the stinger season by at least 2months more than what it used to be. Where does FirieBob sail???
Yep , I have worn a standard outdoor/skiing type thermal ( Katmandu I think ) under my steamer and it definitely works . The only problem this winter will be fitting it under!!!

At SP in October I have worn a 3/2 steamer (the new glued/welded) suits keep a lot of the water out.
Wearing an impact vest/weight vest really helps keep the core of your body warm.
Daffy is rigt - water temp is cold bu OK - wind chill is what really gets you.
