About 30kts of Wind and About 50kts of Hail.......
See Ya next time Spotty......
Thanks to everyone for making us feel very welcome from both Me and Lidsy.![]()
Yes, I'd rank that as one of the finest hail squalls at Sandy, and that pic was towards the end of it. Gary can be seen making his way to the SW bank just after water starting, myself and another emerging from under our sails after trying not to get pelted by the hail monster.
Good to catch up with the NSW and Qld crew again, and representatives from Japan and France sorry it was an ugly difficult day, but it will only hopefully make your next visit seem more enjoyable when you experience another classic Sandy Pt day like today, such a contrast as usual. Unfortunately for those that had to leave today the wind was the right angle, just strong enough to get hi 30's with really flat long runs to practice and get dialed in.
Cheers
S
This is what you missed on the Sunday. Most were on 6.6 to 5.5. The Japanese ridder Hajime was on Spottys Mistral 47 with a 6.1, did some great planning tacks on that and his normal board (Ca40) Helps when you anly weight 58kg. Also has a peak speed of 42kt from his last visit to the Pit. Impressed.
Sorry about the wind noise at the start but it does get better. Not sorry about the flat water and the sun shine![]()
Thanks Kato for your hospitality and local advice, stoked to have got 2pbs even though they were super small increments. I think I would have it a bit more sussed if I sailed there again. Can see it would be awesome with the right wind direction. Nice to meet and put faces to names of a few of the GPS team challenge guys.
If you have never been to Sandy Point speed fortnight make the effort, great to be there when lots of others are on the water.
Great work Kato
. Thank you (and Gary) very much for making me feel very welcome, giving me some "local" knowledge on how to sail at SP. Thoroughly enjoyed our windsurfing chats Kato - the whole social side of Speed Fortnight is great fun. Hopefully next year I can have my gear (and my head!) tuned in better to extract some better speeds.
Hopefully see you at LI sometime soon.
Thanks for the Vid
whats them black suit things you guys are wearing, that stop the sand stinging you?![]()
Pity its so far away for us in WA. Been there once in 10 and it is a great spot to play. Even if the wind was from the top end direction.
Sorry to hear the second week of speed fortnight is being poorly attended. I had expected a new crew to turn up for the second week.
Had an absolute ball this year. Sailed 6 out of my 8 days and pretty much covered all wind directions and available flat spots of water. Didn't get a pb but have never felt as comfortable on gear as I did this week so just wish I could have scored that gust to take me to glory. Ah well, that's why I will just keep going back year after year to try. Oh yeah, and to hang out with all the great people down there too. Kato, Daffy, Matt and Spotty, always great to see you guys. Glen, Gary and Simon, it was a pleasure to meet and sail with you all. To the NSW crew, you know 'I love youse all'
and can't wait to do it all again next year![]()
Gotta agree with Rexy. Super quiet last year but this time our place was "Speed Central" and heaps of fun. Really great to meet Gary (plus the worlds coolest dog), Glen and Simon and catch up with Kato (bugger gets me every year with wind direction), Daffy, Matt etc. Bunch of good friends in the Roaches. Plus Millsy and Lyds make it.
Lots of wind directions and strengths, great BBQ's & beers and wicked fun on the go-kart track!!!!
Seeya next year with a new knee ![]()
Sounds like lot of fun BEERS and some windsurfing aswell good 2 see some footage aswell you goto love that![]()
Same as what Milsy, Rexy & Larko said, thanks for a great week. It was good to meet a few of the local legends who made us feel welcome and good to see a few old faces in a different spot.
If anyone has even the remotest interest in speed sailing, Sandy Point is a must see pilgrimage.
Don't worry about the growing dunes kato, I think I vacuumed half of them out of my car today ![]()
Great video Kato. Really shows what a magical day last Sunday was. It was like sailing on ball bearings. Thanks to all the Pit crew for hosting us. It's been four years since my last trip and its been on my mind each year. Nothing like sandy point for speed sailing. It's really an amazing place. I'll be back.
Was great to catch up with all you NSW crew, and the couple of QLDers who had arrived early in the week. Spewing i could only get there for the 2 days - Monday, then the Sunday.... but too late on Sunday - you'd all packed up!!!
Catch you all next time.
