You can still join the fun however, teams that join from now on will be inelligible to win as you get a 1,000 point penalty, and individuals that join, are inelligible for prizes. But still heaps of fun just to be part of it.

Hardie, Having a huge amount of trouble tracking down team member to get him to register Pinna's. Unless I can get him up by tomorrow, this will make us ineligible for the individual prize items I presume?

Obviously going to impact our score, but not to worried about it as we are only in for the fun bit
He is a contractor and hard to pin down

You will still be eligible, just as long as you join another team, you have registered before 31/05/07, keep trying with the guy but if ya can't get him, join either: father and son, team whippet, wsp warriors, are the closest to you, mandurah mob will have ya, but we are a bit far, SRB are the serious guys (though am beginning to wonder about them?), and speed divas are the wrong gender forya!!

Found him
will get it in tonight or first thing in the morning, as soon as I get him to sign it.
He doesn’t go in line much (you can tell, A ) so no chance of tracking him down that way.

PS and Oh don’t ever ever ever try re-loading any software with the GPS plugged into your desktop when you have tracks on your GPS already. "cleans them up just sooooo nice" Now I have a clean GPS and no tracks
Lucky as I said earlier, it was only day one stuff and me mate didn’t get a run in.

Do you have the GT-11?? If so, did you try the SD card in a card reader?? Elmo and I have a difference of opinion on how the card works.
If there's still data on it, that supports me, if it's also wiped, that supports elmo.

Hi old fella, tell elmo he's wrong
I just stuck my card back into the reader, and all my files from yesterday are still there. I just copy from card to a folder on my PC.

And mineral1, use a SD card, and it'll come up in My Compter as an other drive, your data should be safe

Cheers

Unfortunately all I have left on that card is
Sunday no place file 20070527 and today's Monday nothing 20070528 files.
On Sat in RSpeed I saved Saturday files 20070526 lot into a folder, I cant even find them anymore on my PC. So what ever I did I lost the lot
Did a file search, and yep they are goooorne
I am having biggg trouble actually getting my PC to read anything direct from the NAVi GT-11. The pain in the Ar.... is I can upload the latest software onto it via serial port but when I open the NAVi.exe and hit the read button it cant find the GPS
Actually I am lucky I got this far Elmo has been patiently pressing me to try and grasp the whole thing so I dont stuff it.
Stuck now, need help ELMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi mineral1, use a SD card & reader Heaps easier.
Cards & USB card readers are cheap now.
I had a 32Mb card left over from my camera, will last for hours, too easy

Off to bed, it's late this side

OK have you got the GT-11 in "navilink" mode???
That was my first mistake.
2nd was not selecting the right "com" port, (top left corner I think) the only way I can see to do it is to try each one at a time.
Mine was the last one (com 3) of course. Not sure if it varies if you change the USB port.

bit of "almost" techo speak here.
The easiest way to determine the port, assuming your using windows, is to open device manager, click on ports and note the number for the navi unit. It says something like universal communicator or something, dont have mine handy at the moment, anyway its reasonably obvious.

To get to device manager, right click on My Computer, select Manage and then select Device Manager.

Mineral,
IF you are using the SD card and a card reader, you do not need to use the NaviLink at all, or even connect the GPS to your computer.

Just take out the SD card, pop it in the reader, copy off the .txt file for that day, into a directory on your computer, and open it in RealSpeed or whatever program you are using.

Put the SD card back in the GPS and you are away, no linking problems whatsoever

the card is the way to go, I used navilink and wondered why I had the same strange looking artifact on 2 days sailing, turns out I forgot to reset the track record and the 2nd download also included the 1st. That doesn't happen with the card as a new file is created in it every time you turn on.

Kindly put up by Decrepit

Works like a charm
Decrepit thank you very much.
Nothing on it right now as I elected to start at the page one and format the card and set the GT-11 up from scratch. But I can now read it
Helps if you turn the switch on to navilink to allow desk top to read the unit A
Anybody else need a handam a gun now A

Good to hear that you got it sorted
I read half way up this thread that you had aome empty files - files created but no data. I too had this problem with my Navi early on and was advised by Slowboat that it was due to the Navi having a low tollerance to variations in card voltage. I was using an old 32MB Multimedia card at the time - it had worked on previous occasions but failed on a big day [luckily I had the old Geko on board too]. Slowey suggested only use Sandisk SD cards - apparently other and older brands/cards draw too much at times.
What were using when you got the empty files??
Cheers

25, I actually had the data in a bunch of files on the card and saved it in a new folder when I loaded it into RSpeed.(well thats where I think I saved it) I may have actually saved it into a folder on the card, if you can do such a thing
Anyway because I couldn't get the Navi screen on desk top to talk to the GPS (cos I didnt put NAVi it in navilink mode) I elected (and here is where the term you dumb f... wit comes in) to re-load the Navi updated Version 1.5 software back onto the GPS, thinking, maybe I didn't do it right first time. I think that about then I lost the files. Either that or I removed the SD card while the unit was on and I lost it then
Being a boofhead I was determined to get desktop reading GPS[}:)] This was mistake number one and I should have just stopped and asked questions (impatient SOB that I can be, Nooooo I had to keep messing with it_)
Anyway the card I have is one supplied with purchase and is a SD ultra-X 1Gig.
Have been supported by you and the rest of the crew with tips, and "now" I am set up correctly with procedures on what how when
So all you fine chaps, big thanks

Here's another point that's not clear, (to me anyway)

does navilink, read the card memory as well as internal or only the internal?
Elmo is convinced it does both, from when he downloaded stuff from Hardy's unit.
Can anybody else confirm?
(sorry Elmo for doubting)

Decrep,
As far as I can tell, if you have the SD card in place then all data is saved to the card.
The unit will only save to internal memory if NO card is present.

No I think you're wrong on that count, I'm sure I sailed withe card in. Then downloaded from the unit with the card out.
Yes in fact I'm certain, because the unit and the card had different files for my wavesailing session. The unit had the day before's session and the wavesailing session combined whereas the card had a separate file for each.
That's what makes me think using navilink doesn't get what's on the card. guess it's easy enough to test. take card out, wipe everything in unit, put card back in see if you can download anything.
I'll give it a try later.

Right, nerdy reply #whatever
If you have set the "Memory card" and "Log Switch" to "on" then when you switch the unit on, it will start logging to the SD card.
You will see a little square bucket (3rd icon down on the left hand side) filling up. This means the unit is loggin to your memory card.
The unit will also log to the internal memory regardless.
If you use the NaviLink software to download the track data (What you need to analyse speed data) it will download the internal memory to your PC (NOT the SD card). If you have not reset the "track" from the track menu, then you will get all the runs you have done with the GPS on.
You must use a card reader to get the NEMA text files from the memory card.
Hint: When sharing the GPS, do not swith it off between runs. For each team member, go to the "Memory card" menu, select "Log Switch" and then select "off". Select "log switch" again then select on. This will make the GPS create another NEMA text file for the next team member.
That way the GPS will not have to search for satellites again or bring up the "indoors" or "travel long" options.
Best to set your NAVi to "Log Switch" "on" so it will create the log file when you turn it on. Have not tested if it will still log if either of the above is on the screen.
Anyone tried this?
