I have recently purchased a Navi GTII from Board Crazy in Brisbane, and purchased Some Real Speed software.

The unit is required for a specific purpose - a subject I'm doing for year 12. The topic is wind bend due to shore effect. I want to capture heading data in particular as I sail my A-Class catamaran toward the shore on repeated passes and display the track to show the wind bending.

My problem is that i've spent to much time on the water and now have very little time to master the software and document the results. I've tried but haven't sorted how to do it, and are hoping you can save some time (I have a week to finish this!)

The principle is to sail several "passes" each day over several days (to show repeatability), then display only the portions that are of interest, not the sailing back out to sea again etc.

It seems the "split track" option should be able to do what I want - set a start and finish point on the track and save that as a discrete file, then print (using Google Earth). However, we haven't been able to get it to work that way.

Is anybody able to give us some quick pointers?

Just coming at it from a different direction, what about editing the googleearth image with photoshop and delet the unwanted parts of the tracks?
I haven't played with split tracks enough to help with real speed. You could try contacting Mal thou, (timemachine) depending on how busy he is, he'll know if it's possible.

Hey Mark you can grab chunks out of your tracks by using export tracks which allow you to save to another file.
so you can just show one run.
would that help.

hi mark interesting stuff your doing..would love to help you out without the software documentation. just curious as to what the biggest difference between a hobie and a tornado? is it by where the jib is? and how's the performance in speed? regarding wind bend's everytime we sail close to land masses especially cliffs it seems to rebound and cross shifts on the leeward side when sailing parallel. also in another place that we windsurf which is a cliff that stretches for about 3kms. and only bout 10ft. high i have noticed if you are going perpendicular to shore wind increases by several knots unless it's superwindy that you won't feel the effect..i guess this is what you're trying to document..seems like the wind slides across the curvature and slingshots thru the flattest part..regards
