Hanging around Mick (Drift) has had a bad influence. I'm purchasing a GT 31 (will be here Tuesday 22nd June 2010) and have just upgraded from my 175 ltr Starboard Go to a 122 go.

What I'd like to know is how does this all work?

Are there any other beginner windsurfers participating?

Is there a website that I can look at?

Any advise on how to get started in this 'crazy' sport.

And one last thing, apart from a helmet, what else do I need to stop the body from copping a hiding?

Here's the GPS team challenge site.
www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au

Yep, there's beginners, in there, you just need to join a team near you.
One of the objects of the challenge is to get more people into the sport, it's not just for the top notch sailors.

A lot of speed sailors wear impact/floatation vests. When you get more experienced you can also add weight to some of them.

Thanks for the link,

Since I know a couple of the Southerly Busters, I hope they'll let me join their team.

I always sail with a NP PFD.

I think I might need some extra weight. I'm only 65kg!

This is getting exciting!

Now I can't wait to get into some water with and put some runs on the board.

I'll just have to figure out how to use the GPS, and I have to buy a case from KATO.

Yep it's a lot of fun and very addictive, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

The GTC site has a "Guides" button, you'll find help there.

I'm just under 70kg, but I'm taking it easy on the weights. I want to get my my technique right first. With weight crashes will be harder, and strain on the arms and shoulders higher.

OK peoples and peeps,

I have my GT31 and case (Cheers Kato) and a new 122 ltr Starboard Go. I know it's not a speed board, but this is my first season sailing!

I've set myself some speed goals:

Exceed 15 knots - Easy 16.68 knots 1st time out on new board

Exceed 20 knots - Was shocked when I looked down and saw 22.8 knots. 2nd time out on the board.

Exceed 30 knots - Want this by the end of the year.

Now I just have to figure out how to download and post my times.

Can you turn the display through 90 on the GT31 so you can read it sideways?

Of course, but is is hard to read that way.

Ahhhh.... I guess you want to rotate the display in the screen...........
It can be rotated 180 only, for easier reading when upside down.
