The worst thing is that it doesn't look like any of my vast crew of team mates got out and recorded any sessions!

awesome stuff with a great incoming speed of 30kn+ at fairly square to the wind as well
interesting looking at the degree change from second to second with the slowest part of the gybe coinciding with the biggest change of direction aprox 46deg...just a little bit smoother next time

Yes truly awesome Andrew, what was the distance???
I suspect you got a lot closer to the 500m with this one, as there's no speed drop off at either end.

righto! decrep i think we need to start getting serious about this alpha thingy and attack this scientifically and set up some bits of pvc pipe at hardies at some strategic spots to help gauge this beast proper[}:)]
what do you think?

There's a gybe bouy been set up in the best Alpha territory, if it hasn't been knocked off, but we can do a better job if we like!!!!!

The problem with too much pvc pipe is it starts to get a bit dangerous, though it is much much easier to see than a bouy which gets lost in the chop and not alwys easy to locate!!

Snides, It would be nice to have a 250m gauge of some sort and a 50m gate, just guessing each time must be slowing us down! Think it's the only way to work out the best strategy.

Hardie I'm not sure where your gybe marker is, you were very careful not to let me into that secret!!!! But can we use one of the existing rock markers as one side of the gate, so as not to proliferate our pipes too much

494m. Probably not quite as good a gybe as the previous good one but I got a bit more length this time. The wind was swinging and gusty and it seemed like a got a slight lift both ways.

Rock markers!!! I would use something with a bit more give, like a buoy or even PVC, but a rock!

There is a channel marker buoy at Sandy that is handy to uses as a start marker and then a point on the sandbar that gives you a gybe marker. I recon at Hardies some (soft) markers would help a lot as it is hard to judge distance on open water.

Hardie and I have a secret way of marking the buoy so that only we can see it

Pity it hasn't helped my alphas though

Seriously we've got plans to make it more visible... Shhh!

they're not markers made of rock, they're PVC pipes marking the position of known rocks.

(think Elmo found most of them, although I'm sure hardy's had his fair share)

Very glad to hear it! For a moment there I was thinking, 'Geeze, they build 'em tough over there in WA!"

Well actually, come to think of it......'finding' rocks with your fin is a pretty serious endevour!! Rather you than me......
