Hello,
Ok, just about to receive my navi and have been reading up in here alot. I would just like some advise on a couple of things.
I cant remember who posted this info but it is from various smarter than I types ![]()
Software, I know Realspeed is the way to go but some people are having file reading issus from the SD to software, (txt files I think )and realspeed wont read the file? so what I have read is dload the latest version and any updates and it should fix that, agreed ???
Afixing the unit to my upper arm by use of velcro strap for satelite line of sight (I assume it comes with the aqua pack???)and some more velcro attached to back of aqua pack which will grip on the wetty to stop unit from twisting and slipping.
Anything else? pretty good realy if these are the only main concerns.
Batterrrr up!
Regards GT![]()
GT, right now, its starting to get ![]()
with all the data coming in to topic, got me lost, and worse, the speed site has more
.
Right now after lots of ![]()

I can download files via RSpeed, from card reader, but when it gets to reading from GT-11, then I get lost. I can see a folder, but usually nothing in it, don’t know why. Advise was from the learned ones, just stick with the card reader.![]()
Best two are Gadget and Elmo to get you set up. Gadget gave me a run down last time at shop , unfortunately after about 5 minutes,I was at the
stage and he was at the
stage.
The Aqua pack location, upper arm looks OK, no issues yet, but only used it a few times.

Yep velcro strap comes with pack.
Attach extra velcro to back of velcro strap, NOT aqua pack.
The other issue, is the thumb stick in the pack. The vinyl can put pressure on the stick, changing the menu, at best you can no longer see your speed, at worst it could get to the page that says reset tracks/format card. Not very likely, agreed, still it's a worry, I found operating the thumb stick thru the pack very risky. There's talk about a nylon washer to put over the thumb stick, but I haven't seen one of those.
I've cut a piece of foam rubber 7 X 6 X 4cm and put it in the pack after the navi so it's at the thumb stick end. That takes the pressure off the TS, fills up the extra space, and maybe adds some air so the whole thing floats better if it becomes detached.
Just a note:
You can't format the card while the NAVI is recording. I tried it. The software doesn't let you. So to accidentally format the card, you have to somehow navigate to the Log switch page, turn the switch off, then navigate to the card page, and format the card. Not impossible but certainly difficult to do accidentally you'd think!
I think perhaps the NAVI needs a "keylock" feature like some mobile phones... of course it just has to be this sequence to unlock it:
up up down down left right left right B A Start
I seem to have the least problems using GPSAR and GPSRESULTS, for some reason Realspeed seems to have more bugs and locks up loading files or doesn't load them at all. I have tried both new and old files and still seem to get the problem. The other nice feature with GPSAR and GPSRESULTS is the ability to import digital photos of your sailing location from Google, it's great to see exactly where you sailed and how much you missed the sandbar by.
Hey Roo,
I've found the GPSResults algorithm is better at rejecting false data as well, however for better or worse it's not free, so I don't use it ![]()
I see RealSpeed is no longer free either, it costs 25 euros for new users. GPSAR is the only one free for all now!

Last night it said on the website there was going to be a charge of 25 euros for Realspeed 1.9, today with the posting of the 1.901 update this seems to have been removed. I'll correct my post, there are still 2 free programs for speedsailors to download and analyse their data.
Thanks guys,
I guess we can load either software package and then use the one that feels right.
I appreciate your feedback, I am leaning towards Gpsar only due to stability and map overlay.
Im sure Realspeed can do that but I want the simple option as I is a simple man!
Cheers GT
Only RealSpeed does the alpha-racing stuff -> so if that matters to you... In the 1.9 version, it also has support for "splits", which is quite a need way of segmenting your runs into length/time chunks.
RealSpeed has been extremely Stable and easy to use in all its versions right from the very begining. There has recently been massive rewriting of the code by Mal to incorporate all his new ideas and the Doppler, binary and NMEA speed calculations and in the process he has done a lot to optimise speed and the user interface. The only bugs that I know of have been minor ones associated with one or two of the Beta test versions that were not widely circulated and were very clearly Beta test versions.
All three programs, RealSpeed, GPS-Results and GPSAR are a credit to their authors in their effeciency and stability. In my experience the vast majority of problems encountered are to do with bad track files or user error.
The filtering parameters in both RealSpeed and GPS-Results are easily adjusted by the user but the default settings in both should give excellent and easy results 99.9% of the time, if not more. This is a big advantage over GPSAR where the user must go through a process of editing that requires quite a bit of practice and skill to do it well.
RealSpeed does not yet have the facility to put a photograph behind the mapview but I am sure that will come in the future. If that is important to you GPSAR and GPS-Results do that very well.
I recon it's great that we have so much variety and choice of excellent software.
On the subject of use of the GT-11 in the aquapack, see this link for an excellent solution to the joystick issue:http://mtbest.net/using-navi-in-aquapack.html
Hi Guys,
RealSpeed 1.901 beta is on my site and I will update it every couple of days as issues come to light. It is getting quite stable for most speed sailors using the software in current ways. The issues will arise mostly in the new features including the new Lap Racing, Splits and CheckPoint methods of calculation. It is settling down very well and expect a full release in about two weeks. I am open to input from users so if you have any great ideas on improving RealSpeed then let me know.
On the point of having to pay for RealSpeed, I want to make RealSpeed compelling to use for GPS sailing, and am prepared to put the effort in and develop the features that will make our sailing more fun. The money will help to achieve that and is unlikely to pay for the time gone into it. I hope that everyone appreciates that.
Finally, there are no issues with RealSpeed 1.804 that I am aware of and the vast majority of feedback has been very positive. If you guys find an issue then please raise them on this forum or send me an email so I can address them. Thanks!
Hello Sailquick and Timemachine,
I started it,
Sorry if I have worded anything in such a way to suggest that any of the software options available out there free or otherwise is of poor quality or unstable or has an issue, I was not meaning for it to be a negative thing and am not disrespecting the people who wrote the software or bagging their product and certainly not whinging about cost, I know, neither are you, we all need to pay the bills and time can = business and money, Im cool with that![]()
I am purchasing a NaviGT and would like to find and use the simplest software to use, due to comments in here and other forums I am trying to make a decission that best suits me, that is the great thing about these forums, we get to share experience and help each other out, which may even help you guys as you have mentioned.
These little quirks could very well be user error, I have no idea if it is. I know that I will test any hardware and software limitations due to complete ineptness and lack of knowlege and come up with errors, faults or just plainly confuse the heck out of the program with dumb input whilst learning how to operate this unit and the software.
I maybe wear static undies
Who knows??
The guys in here also have 99.9% positive comments but nothing is purfect as you have mentioned, all I want to is not waste time on being annoyed at why something may, or may not be doing something I think it should wheather it is myself or somthing else, thats all
I felt that I may have offended you guys and may have created an idea that I am bashing the programs, I want you to be clear that I am not and congratulate you, not disrespect you.
Could you please write some code to teach us how to gybe please???
Now! free versions for all........ Hip hip hoooorayyy![]()
That was a joke![]()
Hand extended!
Sincerely MintoxGT![]()

Hey MintoxGT, No offense taken. I just took the opportunity to explain what I am doing. And there are a few rogues (not you) causing mischief across a number of forums so I am keen to keep that kind of nonsense under control.
Your comments about finding issues with software because you tackle things differently is a common problem and perfectly normal. We are all creatures of habit and when I test my software for example, no matter how hard I try to do things differently, I tend to repeat the same actions, mostly because I know how to do something. Its not until you dont know how to do something that you explore untested areas of code and find a few bugs along the way. This is quite normal and why I appreciate the feedback from the guys that test RealSpeed for me.
If you find anything wrong with RealSpeed like this then drop me an email explaining what you were trying to do. If its difficult to find something then the design is wrong and needs fixing. I'll give the menus in RealSpeed Beta an overhaul in the next week or two to ensure that all common functions are obvious and easy to get at. Perhaps then you can give it another try.
And I forgot to mention, that RealSpeed will be free until the full release of 1.9 in (about) 2 weeks. In return I would like guys to try the Beta version and report any bugs or functionality you dont like.
Cheers, Mal
