no Bjorn or Finian.....strange
No Lena or Zara either.
But it would be very interesting to see Karin get the women record back. :)
If you are wondering why some of the kiters have had a few goos runs at Luderitz but none of the windsurfers, it seems that the condition of the canal is still not suitable for windsurfers.

The mysterious new chopkiller - how does it work ? What´s the mechanic behind ?
Quote: "Cattelan has invented a new chop killer concept which is working like a bomb!"
"The chop killer that Seb has made is really efficient. It absorbs the little waves that the wind can create."
There is quite a difference between what makes the canal ideal for kite surfers, and what makes it ideal for windsurfers. A high windward bank reduces chops for the kiters, which lets them go faster; it reduces the wind in the lower part of the sails for the windsurfers, and makes it gustier. At our local spots where we sail right next to marsh islands, even one foot of tide can make a big difference in wind strength and quality. Two feet make a huge difference: you need to stay 20+ meters away from the islands, instead of 2+ meters.
The leeward bank looks the same this year as last year. It is so high that it also reduces the wind for the windsurfers. But it creates a ramp that "shoots" the wind upwards towards where the kites are, improving the wind for kites.
With the event in its 9th year, this is clearly done by design. This is not incompetence, but rather single-minded focus on creating ideal conditions for kite records. For windsurfers, the canal is partially optimized once every few years, just enough to keep them coming back. Sébastien Cattelan's response to complaints by top speed surfers (many of them repeat customers) shows that he sees them merely as cash cows.
That sounds like he's treating windsurfers with contempt. Either he runs separate events for windsurfers and kitesurfers, with optimised canal conditions, or perhaps windsurfers should just boycott the event.

Clearly the same bank design does not suit both kites and windsurfers.
It would appear they need to run the kite comp then lower the banks and run the windsurfing comp.
Always thought that leeward bank looked dodgy with all that sand piled up - it must cut wind velocity across the surface of the water.
Looks like the whole thing has become a joke.
Watching the latest videos, the bank on the downwind side of the channel seems intentional to create compression/lift and increase the wind speed for the kites.
The reason Seb gives for the leeward bank is to stop the high tides from destroying the canal, which is quite plausible.
But, it seems like it could be done just as well with a smoother, rounder bank, only one third to one half the height.
I don't think the leeward back would be much of an issue now that it has been moved back from the edge, if only the water level was right to the windward land surface
I am not convinced that the low water within the canal decreases chop. When the wind it super broad, it appears to funnel it along the canal more and create larger chop.

This may have been taken before the Grader work.
It looks like there are fewer containers for the sailors gear storage this year.
Supersport wrap on Ludz' 2015,
warning may contain some big nuts, big wind, flatter water at times, crashes,......... result records
