Sorry, my previous post is about the backlight time of 2s.
Yes you had me wondering for a while there.
But why set the watch in the dark? There should be plenty of time and opportunity to set it in the light?
Maybe you are right about that!
I was figuring things out at home behind the computer, ouside there's no problem, but after all I want to be able to do the settings inside as well
In Belgium it's noon now.
Thanks Formosa, I'll give it a try as is first and see how I get on with it. Tom is a smarter man than I am.
Here in Australia, we have lights inside for when it's dark
O, that's good, have to consider that

Don't hesitate, it's a great idea!!!
Tell all your mates, spread the word!
Don't know who thought it up but it's really caught on here.
Ok so I have updated to latest firmware now and I have all the RSLT features. Decrep, John or Formosa, can you please explain what each one is/does? Just trying to get it explained as simply as possible
Do we need to reset values of any other settings/metrics to make these functions work correctly?
Thanks also for all the efforts being put in to this.

You can choose whatever discipline you want to measure from max speed, 2 sec ave or 10 sec ave, @500, 100m, 250m, 500m, distance. Use the adjust button on the top left and the scroll up and down buttons on the right to choose and select which discipline you want to assign to each RSLT. If in doubt, read the PDFs notes that came with the firmware upgrade.

Yes, except, you can't choose, 2s average and 10s average, it's one or the other, and set up in the main menu.
My speed genie now displays this.
distance -- @500 & 500m --- max spd & 10s.
Distance has it's own window and can be turned on or off. Then there are 4 more windows, so I have @500 in 1a and 2a, 500m in 1b and 2b. max spd in 3 and 4a, 10s in 3b and 4b. This takes a bit too long to scroll through so I'll have to change it somehow, probably decrease scroll speed to 1s for a start.
Had a play with it today, and it's great to see the alpha result at the end of each run, (except none of them were high enough!) I was sure I was going faster but GPSResults agreed with the watch display until I opened out the separation to 60+m
Formosa, 5XNs display, is not working, very well. There seems to be a bug in the way 10s are saved to memory, because individual results keep disappearing.
Very rarely are there a full compliment of 5 runs, and then they aren't the fastest.
At the end of the day, the watch showed only two 28kt runs for an average of 11.9kts, where as GPSResults said I had a 33kt average
I had this as well with the previous version and wondered if I needed to reinstall it, but it can't be that with the same happening in version C
Could this be because I haven't "cleared" it first? I thought because every number was "0" clearing wasn't necessary

i asked Roger (Formosa 101) if they could provide at least 2 durations for speed average. Roger's response is below
As to the ability to choose 2 SPD AVE (eg 2sec and 10sec),
GW60 can now only suport 1 SPD AVG.
It is not easy to support extra SPD AVG under the current design.
Anyway,we will take your suggestion into consideration.
Hopefully it will be included in a future update.
Ive set my RSLTs as follows
1a & b - Max
2a & b - 2 sec ave
3a & b - @500
4a - 100m
4b - 500m
i can't get the alpha screen to work. What are you setting the speed genie speed to?
I think it is time to get a real GPS / GPS watch.
OK, I'll bite
Name me another GPS watch that:
- records doppler speeds
- records SDOP error
- is approved for competition use in GPSTC and GP3S
- we can talk directly to the developer / manufacturer to improve the functionality
I think it is time for me to get a real GPS / GPS watch.
Fixed it for you
Thanks again Formosa,

>two 28kt runs for an average of 11.9kt
GW60 calculates "5 #NSEC avarage like this : (28Kt+28Kt+0+0+0)/5=11.2kt
You need another 3 runs to get a complete "5 #NSEC" average...
Yes Formosa I realise that, my point was that the results keep disappearing, so although I did 2 to 3hrs worth of 10s runs, only 2 of them appeared on the display at the end of session.
>There seems to be a bug in the way 10s are saved to memory ...
Would you help to do a simple walk test?
Strangely enough I had exactly the same thought this morning, well not exactly, I set it to 5kts and went for runs.
Interestingly, although I thought I'd deleted everything last night, the first run still showed the two 28kt results from yesterday. But I am getting to be a silly old fart who forgets things.
Any way after really deleting everything, the Ns average worked as expected.
so this is what I got
RSLTA RSLTB Ns ave
1st run 9.87 6.51 6.51
2nd run 8.66 5.80 6.51, 5.81 (definitely gave me an extra 0.01
3rd run 9.60 5.59 6.51, 5.81, 5.59
4th run 7.83 3.56 6.51, 5.81, 5.59, 3.37
5th run 10.10 5.57 6.51, 5.81, 5.57, 3.57
6th run 10.12 6.17 6.51, 6.18, 5.81, 5.59, 5.57
7rh run 12.18 7.30 7.3, 6.51, 6.18, 5.81, 5.59
8th run 10.41 6.55 7.3, 6.55, 6.51, 6.18, 5.81
Which is exactly how I expected it to work.
So maybe the problem was due to not deleting top rslt and Ns average.
It'll be very interesting to see what happens next time I take it for a sail.

i can't get the alpha screen to work. What are you setting the speed genie speed to?
I have mine set to 10kts, because any gybe with a lower speed than that won't be a good alpha.
Yesterday, I thought I'd done some good alphas, with no result showing, but GPSResults showed there were a few that went too wide.
Maybe we need to do a walk test with this over a marked course just to check every real alpha is recorded. But as the best one is recorded by the watch and GPSResults to within 0.00kts I'm reasonably sure it's working properly

Thanks Mike, I now understand how it works. I've set mine at 7.
>Just a thought, but I think if Top RSLT shows the best alpha, then I think it would be more useful for ACT SPD to show the last one,the
Top RSLT shows the personal best since last reset.
Tom prefers to show the "so-far" best &500 speed for ACT SPD.
Maybe you can discuss that with him....
>>>>.
Using it yesterday with &500 in 1a and 2a, that showed me the last run. Top Rslt shows the best for the session, so that's all I need.
I find ACT SPD a bit hard to read while sailing, so I've set that back to speed.
So when I use the delete function with the utility (computer) or the buttons on the watch I still have numbers come up from my last run? Yes I have tried to delete on every screen as I scroll through them so why is this? Figured by deleting info it shouldn't be there any longer so how is it still holding memory of these numbers? Guess it doesn't really matter but I was always in the habit of deleting all on my GT-31 before a session so I knew it would only be from that day.
>although I thought I'd deleted everything last night, the first run still showed the two 28kt results from yesterday.

Thanks for the Alpha Racing firmware test feedback.
We have located the bug.
The "delete" function of "5 #NSEC" only clears the values stored in the RAM memory now.
The values in the EEPROM is still there. So next time you switch to GPS mode,
the values in the EEPROM are loaded and displayed.
We will release a patched version soon.
The new version will support both 10S and 2S (as decrepit& John suggested)
It's truly outstanding to have the manufacturer on here to help with any problems/bugs. Well done Locosys/formosa101 on building the best watch available for our sport bar none. Thanks to all involved in making this happen.

Fantastic formosa, excellent work from you and the locsys team!!!!
The 2s will be a real bonus, as the max speed can be very misleading, sometimes close to 1kt more than the 2s.
And the 2s result is probably the most important to a lot of GPS Team Challenge sailors.
And thanks for being so open about what's going on, I for one really appreciate it.
Any time you want something tested, I'm more than willing to help.
Formosa101, tnx for all this "debugging".
Is there any chanche to change the fact that every different session is stored in the same and only .SBP file.
Is it possible to create a new .SBP file after turning the gps logging of and on again? This for the posting on GP3S, the uploader build in the site, can't handle the tracks of different days in one file...
The "splt.exe" tool can be found in the folder where the GW60Util is installed.
Here is a reference link:
www.kiteboarder.com.au/Forums/Windsurfing/Gps/GW60-instructions?page=1Hi Formosa, seems like that link isn't working (for me anyway.) Sorry, working now.
I am curious about the splt.exe tool. I was looking at it the other day. It only seems to split into separate day sessions, correct? How does it determine a day break? Does it use timezone information from the device? (I don't recall that being in the file header) or does it just look for a large break in data?
How well does it function in remote timezones? for instance in Queensland, which is GMT+10, it would be possible for there to be two tracks from the same UTC date but different Qld dates.
Dylan.
It seems like Yann Mathet has released a new version of GpsArPro 5.17
gpsactionreplay.free.fr/index.php?menu=2
Now it is possible to upload to GP3S in Doppler
.
Following this thread makes me curious about the value of Hdop. What is a good value, bigger or smaller than 1.
Is there a way to explain it very simple what it realy stands for?

Joke![]()
Has not GPSAR-Pro always produced Doppler results??
HDOP is Horizontal Dilution Of Precision. It is an index of how accurate a positional fix is. Lower is better.
But is HDOP what you were really curious about?
Hi, the bug related to sample rates above 1Hz is now fixed in GPSar, so fully compatible with GW-60 now.... Great work by Yann again !!!
I've asked Laurie this in the General section and provided the link. I'm guessing he has plenty on his plate to deal with at the moment.
Laurie, Why have the later Formosa 101 posts been removed?
You'll have to ask formosa101 themselves, as they deleted them. You can click the "message" icon on their post, or PM them through their profile.
p.s. Thanks Martin for the heads up in the general section. ![]()
