OK, major revision to the site today, and now you can view (and download) previously submitted files straight off the home page.

www.ka72.com/

I have added a (manually updatable, for now) Location column to the grid, so that you can see at a glance where the files are coming from, and link straight to the Google Earth overlays.

Site is now freely functional for anyone who wants to process their GPS files online without installing any software. Functionality is still somewhat limited (and GPX support continues to develop), but the site provides upload and instant display of the following speed measures (in knots):
2 second peak
5x10s average
1hr speed
Nautical Mile (1852m) speed
Alpha 500
100m Speed
Total distance travelled (km)

plus overlays on Google Earth browser plugin (Firefox/IE only.)

There is no provision, just yet, for being able to re-visit previous calculations. I will work on adding this next, if only to spare myself the bandwidth costs! However, you can re-upload a file and the stats will be recalculated for you without re-adding the file to the library.

Dylan.

I just uploaded my data from this session.

gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?date=2009-02-06&team=2

Yours has given me the following quite different results.

How can my 2sec be faster than my 5x10.
Session Date: 6/02/2009
Number of Points: 5243
2 Second Peak (kts): 35.91
5x10 Average (kts): 36.66
1 Hr (kts): 18.34
Alpha 500 (trackpoints): 22.11
Nautical Mile (kts): 33.58
100m peak (kts): 36.99
Total Dist (tp km): 60.92

Not being critical just letting you know. let me know if you want me to send the days raw data

Just a quick Q, your post in GPSTC has most of the speeds as Doppler except Alpha (so I'm guessing you are using a GT-11?)

The site results you are quoting are all trackpoints, so probably calculated out of a GPX file?

Have you tried using your original SBN or SBP file on the site? GPX files are not well supported at present (as you can see...)

I stand corrected Dylan. I uploaded straight from my SD card and was given the exact same as respeed.

Nice work mate!!

Nice - checked against some old data - excellent!

How about Lozza adds a link on the Seabreeze site or a sticky on the GPS forum? - my memory ain't what it use to be - would be great when using public computors.

Just tonight I've uploaded an update to the site which should now allow all Garmin files to read successfully. (I'm still getting some stupid results from some files, but that is another matter.)

Many Garmin GPX files use custom Garmin XML extensions, which .NET is not able to parse correctly. It's taken me a while, but I've finally managed to get the code to ignore these custom extensions and load the files for processing.

If you recently tried to upload a GPX file, and got an error message instead of a result, please give it another go.

Hey mate, great site working a treat. However the only thing i can notice is that it is giving me about 2km extra than what i get on real speed for my total distance. Tried it with a few different tracks and always getting a bit higher by a couple km on the site than realspeed. Just thought you might like to know.

I saw you added a "plus spike" to my file
But the results are exactly what i came up with on realspeed.
Shows it can work with problem files.
Nice work.

Hey Dylan, try this one for size

Sorry mate but I couldn't even be bothered trying to sort this mess out.

Last night his tracks were clean as a whistle, tonight utter Sh1te

By the way your numbers are the same as Realspeed so don't feel bad

Just noticed there's a few PBs in there

(Dylan posting as Kellie)
I have to ask which distance figure you are using from RealSpeed?

For a doppler track (a SBN or SBP file) you should be looking at the last figure in the "Total Doppler Distance" column in Realspeed. The other distance figures in Realspeed are Trackpoint distances, less accurate, and usually a little bit less than the doppler distance.

With my test data, my total distance calcs are usually within 1-2% of Realspeed's, though not usually exactly spot on. 2km would be a large variation.

If your files are GPX files, on the other hand, I'm not sure why there would be a positive variation. My GPX total distances in my test data are almost always less than or equal to the Realspeed distances.

I'm on the road this weekend, so I can't do any verification of tracks until Monday, but I'm still checking my mail and keeping an eye on the site.

Dylan.
