Well done, looks like the women have some more competition to deal with!!!!!!
Sure, it could be a mistake. We just put in the figures out of Realspeed, but if someone wants to check they are welcome. I'm not really used to the software.
does not sound right kellie if your 2 sec max was around 20 knots. email me your track and i can check it boardcrazy@bigpond.com
Now that I've managed to work out how to work Realspeed (thanks for all the advice, guys) and am using the right default.rsp file, I have updated the figures.
Kellie's 500 Alpha for that day drop to less than 12, bad luck for her, but the Alpha from the 3rd of Jan (which I didn't get at all the first time) jumped to just under 17, so she is still second place.
I've got some more results from today to plug in, apparently the wind came up quite nice at Wello after WQ packed up the buoys and headed home, so Kel did an hour or so this afternoon. Makes up for all the dredging around the course!
hi dylan,
if you send me the tracks i'll take a look. something still doesn't seem right with the 3rd jan results.
what you need to look for is a spike in the track. if you click on the alpha time it will jump to the position in the track map where it was done. ifthe gybe isn't a curve. ie. if it has a straight section then it;s a spike.
spikes can happen because the gps is worn under a wetshirt or is obscured in it's view of the sky.
for a rule of thumb i have found my good alphas are between 10-8 knots less than my 2sec max.
i know kelly is an excellent sailor so i am not saying she isn't capable.
i really hope i'm wrong cause she's on my team. ![]()
I'll send you the file for a 2nd opinion. However, I checked it out, and it looks like a good gybe to me. That day was really cranking, and she was sailing the short 500m channel at Golden Beach, so there was heaps of gybing (about 50 or 60 gybes in the session.) All of the top 5 Alpha tracks are over 15kts that day.
D.
the alpha looks good dylan.
however the peak speeds i am getting are higher than whats on gps. ![]()
someones going to be happy ![]()
i'll write them all down and send it to you.
cheers
