Hello all,

I just destroyed my beloved Mauisails TR-4 6,6...

I mostly sail choppy waters with my Fanatic Falcon 95 2009 (61 wide) and also have a JP Slalom 69 (53 wide).

I use the JP with an 2016 KA 5,8 and really like this combo, achieved 34 knots (2sec) on really choppy waters without effort! Amazing sail, nice and light but still plenty power and stable!

I'm torn between a Koncept 6,6/7,0 and 7,1 Race to replace my old TR-4! Would like something slalom like in that size but don't want to get a heavy sail like the TR-4 again. The TR-4 is a great sail although a bit outdated.Since I'm just over 60 kg's and 1.80m I would like something manageable, the TR-4 was fine albeit a bit heavy.

One more thing I just purchased a KA 430 mast because it was on sale, figured the 7,1 Race would rig perfectly fine on the 430 and it might even be nice considering my weight/length. Am I right?

Whats you're opnion on this? Koncept 6,6/7,0 or Race 7,1?Thanks,
Flyingdutchmen

I also have the jp69 and did my best speeds with the Koncept 5.8, but use it mostly in shallow flat water. The KArace 7.1 is very stable, has more bottom end, but heavier: if you sail in chop I think the 6.6 will be easier. The Koncepts in my opinion are the easiest sails and pretty fast if you are powered up.
My sessions with 5.8-2015: martignoni.id.au/summary_sail.php?sail=Koncept%205.8-2015&sort=date
with 6.6-2016: martignoni.id.au/summary_sail.php?sail=Koncept%206.6%202016&sort=date
with race 7.1-2016 : martignoni.id.au/summary_sail.php?sail=KA%20Race%207.1&sort=date

if you click the date it will show you more details of the session: conditions, board, fin etc.

I would not recommend using the 7.1m race on the 430 mast. In my experience, it does not like that at all. It is much better on the 460 mast.

On the other hand, the 7m Koncept works perfectly on the 430 mast and is noticeably lighter to handle in the transitions, especially when over powered. The 7.1m Race has slightly more power and amazing stability when overpowered, but heavier and harder to handle in the Gybes.

I think you would like the Koncept more for what you have indicated.

Yep ..agree with sailquik (and his knowledge far outweighs mine) ..I have used Concepts in chop and ocean for years over the "race" for two main reasons, smaller luff sleeve, thus a bit easier to water start and a bit lighter in gybes.

Thanks a lot, Koncept it is!

One more thing though, 6,6 or 7,0?

6.6 will be perfect, less drag and faster
