I've always wondered how fast i was going.

I thought it might be fairly quick so today i got a waterproof case for my phone, HTC Desire, and using the My Tracks app recorded a bit of windsurfing today.

Top speed 55.80km/h or 30.13 knots.

I was using a 2001 JP freeride thats 268cm long 55cm wide and 100L, 30cm weed fin, and a 5.8 Ezzy special edition wave sail.

Question. How much would better gear help me going faster.

Join the GPSTC and you will be right up there if you achieved that speed on a wave sail, well done.

Not sure on your approach as to what you want to do, but in essence, cam sails, and dedicated kit to suit the board, and a few tips from the guys within the GPSTC and you will be surprised on the improvement. I know the Wannabees are looking for new starters, and suits your location.

Hi Wespyyl,

confidence gets you faster!
Sharing it with your friends online is good fun too.

Have a look at the GPS Team Challenge as Mineral suggested.

The Wannabees are looking for sailors so look us up on the challenge. We vary in speed and age but have a wealth of kind words to boost your confidence.

PS I ride a 2002 JP FSWave and my personal best is 30.5- your speed was good in the scale of the worlds speed surfers. Most of them peak at 34 knots.

Mineral, WHAT ARE YOU DOING???

Recruiting for other teams....

and yes 30 knots on a wave sail is really good.

I still dream of reaching 30 knots... getting there...

Crikey! I remember a few year ago when thinking about moving to Perth. I was signed up to the pinnas.

Times change. Now I'm captain of another team and looking for windsurfers who get out there and windsurf.
