Just announcing and welcoming a new NSW Team, the "Pittwater Punters", They will be a Sydney Northshore based team, and when they are ready they can introduce themselves here!!

Jethrow is opening up invitations to join his team read post below (or under GPS and Speed section)

PS we encourage more social and family orientated teams, being in the challenge becomes like being part of a social group, like a windsurfing club, posting sessions on the website: www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au can be like a windsurfing diary/blog, and you can have your own localised bragging rights.

Welcome punters.

Same as with all roaches if you and any other Sydney based speedsters are interested in trying out some fast gear just shout out and we'll see what we can do to give you a hand.

Sam.

Hi all

Yes, it is me, Jethrow, original punter. The punters are aimed at all the guys still around Sydney who haven't joined because of the speeds the top guys from the other team are doing. Just imagine, if you join the punters you stand a very good chance of being the top performer in a GPS challenge team. The founding members are a bloke at the back end of the formula series and a chichadee who's learning to use her harness. What better way to show off to your mates than to say your the top scorer for your team. I know there's still a bunch of guys out there still not registered or in a team (or even if you're already in a team, we don't mind). You don't need to be from the northern beaches but our team rules preclude boards wider that 120cm or longer than 4.5m. Anything smaller than these sizes would be welcomed. Come on, it's just for fun. If you're from NSW and not in a team why not join now. As an introductory offer, membership is free. You can't beat a deal like that. I'll sign off now and wait the avalanche of applications to come flowing in. Feel free to PM me if interested or just sign on with Hardie and use our team's name.

P.S. We do accept deserters from other teams while actively discouraging poaching (or not).

Hi,

I am keen to join. I live in Hornsby and the closest flatwater places for me to sail is either on the Pittwater or at Narrabeen Lake.

I do not own a GPS but I plan on getting one when I return from Japan next week.

Hopefully I will not be too slow. I have a Tabou 140 and will be bringing down my old Bombora 260 from my parent's place. I remember it being hell fast on Lake Illawarra in winter westerlies so will be interesting to see how it goes.

I will PM my personal details.

I bought a GT-11 GPS from Wind Surf and Snow. I will fax in the registration tomorrow or Thursday. I am going up to my parent's place to pick up my Bombora 260 and a KA 5.0 race sail. Its a killer combo. Then what?

I am not sure of what to do with the GPS. I took it for a drive and walk today and it seems to work fine, telling me how fast I was driving and even walking. It would be nice to meet up when its windy, perhaps next year, and then be shown how it all works.

I just had a sail repaired by UK Halsey in Warringah. The bloke I talked to, John, who seems to be the boss there, is pretty interested in the GPS scene. He said he used to go windsurfing a lot but stopped around 10 years ago. He worked for Barracouta sails before. We looked at some pictures from the 90s, fluro wetsuit clad, and he is a good sailor. I told him when I go GPS sailing I will give him a call and he will see if he can get down.

G'day Moby

There is some good stuff on setting up the GT-11 on the Teams challenge site. Also some threads further down this page. See you at Palmie soon. I'm AUS230 and I'm pretty sure my wife and I will be there this weekend, probably Saturday morning for the high tide.

Hi,

Why go there only at high tide? It seems pretty deep in Pittwater with all the yachts and stuff sailing around there.

I go dancing Saturday morning. However depending on the wind I will try and get down either to Pittwater or Narrabeen lake in the afternoon.

I only go at high tide when my wife is coming as she doesn't like walking in the mud

Jethrow,

Does this mean that you are not going to Jervis this weekend?

Yeah, sorry mate, not this weekend but I'll definitely be there for the grand finale in Hawks Nest. I might even have a sneak peak of the '09 Jethrow range

You cannot do that Jethrow. Some major lofts are only getting their 08 sails on the water now. Even NP wil not have 09 sails until sometime around November.

YOU WILL UPSET THE NATURAL ORDER - 09 sails in March '08 - The apocylapse is nigh.

Cannot wait to see what you have come up with this time :-)

Alright, I filled out and faxed off the GPS Challenge form.

I have a GT-11 and memory card. I have a Windows laptop with a SD card reader. Should I download one of those tracking applications and also install Google Earth? The French one which has a 30 day trial looks good.

So all I need now is wind and time to do it. I was hoping for a sail yesterday. There was a bit of breeze at Rodd Point but not enough.

Seabreeze is predicting reasonable winds for this week so here is hoping. I will let you know via this thread if and when I am going to Palm Beach. I will take the laptop down.

Probably,

its a work fax and it must be face up rather than face down.

I will fax it again.

Van is packed and there is a chance of a seabreeze tomorrow. I will go to Narrabeen Lake as I have to pick up my wife from Chatswood around 7.30pm. I'm going for a PB tomorrow

Pittwater Punters are at the bottom of the ladder.

The only way is up!

How can you say we're bottom of the ladder, there's at least 12 teams that havent even posted. In my mind that says we are nearly in the top half.

I'll work on JB and Sean at Hawks Nest in a couple of weeks, I know they both need a team and are just waiting for the invite.

I just looked at the GPS team results and we are 17th in most categories. I didn't see any other teams below 17.

Perhaps some people who sail at Narrabeen Lakes will join later on.

Anyway I will hopefully get planing and thus improve upon the 4 knots we currently have.

I just had a read of the GPS rules. From what I read two people have to post a result on the same day for times to be credited to the team.

Anyway I will see if I can go sailing this afternoon and post results up and see if it all works. The forecast looks reasonable for this weekend so perhaps we can post some results then.
