I tried out my i76 for the first time yesterday at Sandy Point with a demo RSR 5.5m. The Sail worked well, but I need to work on getting use to the board and set it up better and work on my stance.
My setup was both front and back foot straps set in the inbound setting, with the front ones forward and back ones in the middle. The mast foot was about 1cm forward from centre. I am about 6’2” and about 80kgs, using a waist harness. My stance may have been more up right as habit from wave and freestyle sailing, plus using the waist harness. I will try a seat harness some time when I'm more comfortable with the board.
The problems I had yesterday was;
1. the nose seem to be bit too high off the water
2. my left front foot did not feel very secure in the foot strap, especially through the chop
3. the cut away from the sail clew kept catching in the water
Any advice on how to setup i76 for first time speed sailor would be great. Thanks in advance.
1. Burn waist harnes and your short harness lines
2. Mast track on center position for tight course, -1cm for 120-130 deg
3. Foot straps outboard and in the back positions.
4. Seat harness, long lines & boom up should help clew drag. Also RSR may have been downhauled too much, add heaps of track strap to stabilise draft.
Isonic tends to have a bit of a floaty front foot, however above mods will help.
Have fun!![]()
Guys,
Thanks for that. I will try out the seat harness, longer lines, centre mast foot position and foot straps out bound. I'll let you how I go next time the wind is up.
Regards,
Stephen
Hey Windrider,
you could also try rigging one of these on to the back...they're great for down the line speed but the gybes can be a bit dicey!
windrider......my left front foot did not feel very secure in the foot strap, especially through the chop
i have the same problem.
i bought a i76 a few months back, great board, only one BIG problem.
my front foot, esp my left one, keeps feeling like it is coming out of footstrap.
on last time out with i76, i hit small piece of chop, my front foot came out of strap and i catapulted for first time in years.
that was it ,had enough of this board, not used it since.
heard you can buy this steel mechanism that fits into 2 footstrap holes but allows for more positions.
Same thing happen to me Sunday. Foot came out lost control at speed then a big splash. My thoughts was the strap was not set in the right place for my foot. I was going to put the board on the grass and sit in chair to see how my foot rests against the board to see where the strap should be.
I might post the same question on Starboard web forum too.
i have tried putting footstrap position as close to rail as possible on i76, it made no difference.
i bought 2 old windtec boards. the smaller one the 8'6 prolite, i have the same problem. it is a fantastic feeling board but front foot wants to come out all the time. i no longer use.
the other windtec is another 8'6, but older and another 10 litres more volume, the walls are a lot more square on this board, i have no problem with front foot coming out, so i love it.
have come to conclusion, it is more to do with the shape of wall/rail than rather than the footstrap position itself.
getting a new screwbox fitted for i76, so can get feet radically over wall/rail + parallel may help.
i tried this 10 years ago with another board ,it helped a bit.
the f2 boards+kinetic are the only ones i don't have problem with.
