I picked up a new GT-11 and am having problems writing to the card and reading data from the card on the PC. I have loaded the new firmware 1.61 and have all programs running on the computer correctly. I have changed all the settings in the GT11 to those recommended on the Mt Best site. I can backup from the GT11 to the computer but when I press "read" in the Navilink program the dialogue box shows:
"Start read command"
"Found folder C:Documents and SettingsTonyMy DocumentsNavi GPS20071110\"
"End read command. "
But there is nothing downloaded into that new directory - nor is there even a download progress bar shown.
Do I need to do something in the settings of the GT11 to ensure it loads the data onto the SD card and likewise to read thru to computer.
Other Questions:
1. Can anyone advise whether it is better to have Log-switch "on-fix" or otherwise.
2. In settings what does DOP do - mine is set at 0.
3. In Settings I have Interface set to Binary - is this correct.
Help greatly appreciated.

Hi Bob, thanks for your reply - I will speak with Mike again tonight/tomorrow. I am sure I have downloaded the new firmware onto the GT11 correctly and I can backup the GT11 system to my computer. The problem is that I cannot get the "read" log files (sailing data) from the GT11. Also I am not sure if the GT11 is writing that data to the SD card or not.

Best way to check the card is to use a card reader with your computer, I never use Navilink to retrieve my data, always use a card reader to save to computer, simple.
If nothing on your card, for now so you can retrieve your last session, go to the Data Logger menu and save to card, then use card reader. Never done it, but should be right.

Thanks again Bob, I have just purchased a card reader - will connect to computer and see. I changed the Interface setting from Binary to NMEA and now the files download - so looks all solved depending on the card.

Tony, "bin" is the preferred setting, (it saves less data) but navilink doesn't work with it. The file needs to be read direct from the card.
Log switch "on-fix' means that you don't record useless stuff unless there's actually a satellite connection.
Not sure about "dop" mine was set to 0 but I changed it to 1, didn't seem to make any difference.
Thanks Decrepit. I have just used the card reader and emailed the files to Mike who confirmed they were fine. Have changed the setting to Binary and will use the card reader in future. I kept mucking around with the settings before when I couldn't get NaviLink to download the data - all makes sense now.

Thanks, it would need to.
1. Wednesday I was putting my board on the roof and casually hit my windscreen with the nose. No damage to the board at all but cracked the windscreen (outer laminate only) near the corner. Must have been under some stress at that point as I only hit it lightly.
2. Bought the BGT11 - didn't realise it wouldn't work with the latest firmware. Anyway it wouldn't acknowledge the SD card and it had a few other funny quirks (and before 3. happened below). I took it back for warranty today and bought the standard GT11 as well as another boom (see below).
3. Friday went for my first sail with the GPS (3rd sail back after 5 years) - absolutely wrapped in the board and kit I have - just have to get time up to get used to the shorter wider style and get the gybes back. Anyway when bearing away and starting to go for a decent speed run I was fully powered and stance forward somewhat - I got hit by a gust and the nose dug in I think (shoulder of board anyway) - I did a huge catapult but my feet were still in the straps for most of it. Felt like a cartwheel. Collected the boom and bent it in 3 planes on both arms. Anyway the sail and mast held up fine so very pleased about that. No apparent injury other than a sore back this morning - must have collected the boom with my harness spreader bar.
So 3rd time unlucky (well maybe just a little bit of operator error in each case 
) - might just have to invest in a helmet if I have another catapult. Happy I ended up with a 26.51 knts on first attempt and interested to see how fast I can get as my skill levels improve. have today also adjusted by straps to one hole further forward and the mast base slightly forward - my stance was forward partly to help keep the board at a good angle.

Cool, so Elmo will be the one I should emulate for the kamikaze approach I take it - just don't tell me if has had some major accidents - with this speed bug I get the feeling I may be in for some beauties.

Thanks Frant. I just read the "break neck sailing" posts and yeah the reality of the damage that can be done is sinking in - will get a vest and helmet as suggested. Seems a very long road to recovery - but thankfully they didn't do any worse. Any worse would probably have meant life in a wheelchair. Definitely a wake-up call.
