Thanks to Tony W I rushed out and bought an Oregon Scientific Head Camera the other day (cant have anyone having more toys than I do). I had to fabricate an aluminium mounting plate and washer which bolts through the ear holes on my Gath helmet leaving the helmet and retractable visor intact. Can supply pics if anyone wants to use the same method of mounting. pm. me if interested, could probably even supply them for an exhorbitant fee.
Yeah i'd be really keen to see the quality too. For the price they look like a pretty good little unit. Definitely fuss free.
I got one (Oregon Scientific) from the missus for Christmas. So far I've only used it for snowboarding and the video came out really crap actually. Maybe it didn't like the cold.
Will report back when I have tried it windsurfing (for that I need wind). I'll be the only guy on the water with a snowboarding helmet but I can live with that.
Got one a while back have only sailed with it once and put it on youtube
Had to turn the quality down a long way to get a fast upload the actual vid was not too bad though I might need to make my own alloy mounting like yours the provided rubber strap is useless, most of the bouncing in my vid was from the camera bouncing on the strap
Hope it works out , the images i've seen have been poor and I've read negative things on forums about the image quality.
Snides and Slowy have digital still cameras that take nice movies. I think the cheaper , lighter versions are easier to wear and bounce less while still having excellent quality.
Only used one for a bit so far, had the jiggling problem but maybe that can be reduced with a non-rubber mounting bracket. The good points are
It is very light, did not even notice it mounted on my helmet.
Easy to download onto a mac with a card reader.
Sure beats standing on the beach to get videos of your mates.
and inexpensive.
Ours failed fairly early in the piece, but was replaced by Camera Action in Melbourne very quickly.
Tried boom and mast mounting. OK but a wider angle lens would be better for that.
