There has been a few mutterings of late from the Metrosexual crowd (team SRM) that us crab crushers may be slightly overstating the extent of the "Snot Fields" in an attempt to stop them buggers doing raiding runs in our back yard.
Here is a vid clip of the run taken from the unpowered boat ramp looking west to the powered boat ramp then panning east.
Pat - cant believe how much the lake has crapped out in 2 weeks. Had a look a fortnight ago and thought not too bad - had a look today you could walk across to Frants place!
Don't let this put you of guys,
This is basically the "inside section"
All that snot will (and is) starting to Bleach ie die, when the surface layers dies it suffocates the snot beneath as it can't get any sunlight.
Over near the white post part of the run we are already getting some mirror nits forming behind some of the patches.
For the next few weeks the snot will keep growing in the deeper parts, this will also form floating "pads", although ugly these are good because when the kinda line up you get mirror smooth water behind them, it's just a bit more exciting threading your way through them![]()
I would recommend anyone sailing there at the moment to wear polarizing sunnies as this allows you to see the subsurface clumps which may not stop you but can stand you up a bit if you hit a big enough one (the trick is don't back of)
There's still some good speeds to be had out there (Norts's 39 is a testament to that) you just have to ignore the inside section Which we couldn't do any way with the spring low tides and run run out a bit wider.
It's the weed which gives us the speed.![]()
Looks OK to me, that's how it always looks ,,,, doesnt it ![]()
You mean out near the white post in the area like Pinnaroo or closer too the white posts is still OK?
Mineral![]()
Sailed it tonight with a 36cm weed and had 3 massive stacks coz of the snot, which wrecked my attempt at cracking 20kts for the 1 hour.![]()
